Laetiporus sulphureus confirmation requested. Found growing at base of White Oak in mixed Hemlock and hardwood forest uphill from a lake. Solid porous underneath. Smells astringent, fresh slightly piney.

Could be Laetiporus cincinnatus since it is growing at the base of a living oak and in a rosette pattern.

Laetiporus cincinnatus has a white to cream colored pore surface, Laetiporus sulphureus has yellow. A little hard to tell from the photos. The third pic looks really yellow but what do they look like in natural light?

Definitely yellow. I'll eat a little bit of it later. If it agrees with me I'll harvest the rest.

I would say Laetiporus sulphureus then.. They are both tasty in my opinion, enjoy!

I like breading and frying them up in a skillet like a chicken cutlet then dipping in honey mustard or barbecue sauce.
Enjoy
