forget the spots, is this even myc?
    #26924921 - 09/08/20 03:58 PM (3 years, 4 months ago)

first grow attempt. Oat grain innoc via spore syringe (highly NOT recommended) started seeing white growth in 5 days. I shook the jars at around 30% on day 8. today is day 11 white growth is taking off after shaking. now the question is, considering the tek i used, is this thick white growth even myc, or could it still be mold taking over the whole jar? Since two of these jars will be reading before the others, should i just do g2g with these jars? cant really spawn to bulk with 2 jars

Those jars look very wet...and bacterial.  Do not go G2G with those...

If you're up for an experiment you could do shoeboxes with those and see what happens...clone the best looking fruits if you get them...

I would vote to start over :frown:

You could probably top fruit for a clone

The little black specks that are in the red squares are other seeds mixed with the grains. Feed grains often have other "things" in them. I often see those, random corn peices, straw, and occasionally chunks of grasshoppers.

You seem to already know that multispore to grain is a bad idea. Don't be afraid of agar, the hardest part of it is getting over the mental intimidation.

I'll agree with the first poster, spawn to shoeboxes. You won't be putting all your eggs in one basket, and hopefully have a fruits to attempt to clone from.

They look a bit disorganized for me to trust spawning them.

Looks like cobweb to me, kinda slow for cobweb colonization tho, if it's day 11, still tho, pretty sure that's cobweb.

Most people call any light grey fuzzy mold cobweb. But it's really rare to have actual cobweb.

It's more likely a pin mold

Thin spots, thick spots, it should be uniform.

There is Myc in the jars, but there are other organisms in there for the ride as well.  You can:

1) Fruit From the top as mentioned
2) Spawn to shoe boxes
3) Take some grain from the jars and attempt to clean on agar
4) Start over

Dont give up hope!

I would just spawn it to a shoebox. Itll probably tam out but its worth a shot, waste not want not and all that. Especially if you're looking for clones or spore prints. From there you'll need to clean on agar because that jar is obviously infected. But you may get some fruits.

Thanks for all the great info. The consensus says i should attempt to spawn to shoebox, to try to save, so thats what im gonna do. I just bought five 6qt shoebox. i will use coir as substrate, at a rate of 1:5 to spawn. i'll let you know how it goes. Should i be cautious when opening these jars, as to not take a huge whiff in case it is all mold? perhaps wear a respirator mask?

Again, you are more likely to get something to clone if you just threw some coir on top and fruit in a grocery bag

You mean put the coir on top inside the jar and cover the jar with a bag?  Or do you mean dump the jar in a bag and put coir on top?

Leave the colony intact or you'll just spread mold everywhere.

Slap come field capacity coir on top and use the bag to keep humidity in
