And I'm afraid that, in this "new" world, I'll never get another chance at those things. Perhaps that feeling is contributing to this rut (or maybe even the majority of it is due to those feelings).
When I'm in a rut I similarly ruminate on things like this. The missed potentialities of my life, my failings, "the world is f**ked" and so forth. I wouldn't let it take up too much headspace if i were you. I know tensions are high in the US at the moment, but things will inevitably change, they have to. When things around us are really shitty it's the best possible time to take stock of our own lives, their value and fragility, so that we can face the truth of the world more openly when they pass.
Okay, didn't mean to go all lyrical. Tripping may be a good reset for your state of mind, just maybe mushrooms aren't the thing right now because they can tend to whack one with one's own neuroses. Do you have another plant medicine you can try working with for a while? Maybe oral dmt, or just harmalas by themselves? Syrian rue is always a good reset for me, and doesn't come with all the extra psychological work that tryptamines require. Another thing that resets me is ketamine but I wouldn't advise getting into that unless the depression starts getting really bad since it's not as benign as the natural psychs.
Sending good vibes your way man, things will get better
Thank you for that, it really helps and puts things into perspective. It's nice to hear the optimism behind "this shall pass" even though it seems like armageddon in America.
I like that you went "lyrical" it makes me think about what I've been blind to.
Regarding other plant medicines, mushrooms are the only ones I use. I smoked weed in the past, took a long break and came back to it recently but it makes me lazy and so I've decided to abstain from it again.
Maybe I just need a solid trip to rethink everything

When I am in a slump and want to get out of it, I seek inspiration and all the emotions that come with it and then act upon it. Best source has been greens and mushies and especially mushies and they will allow me to break the slump, even if only for a little while. It still feels great to have that lightbulb go on above your head lol

Agreed on that lightbulb feeling, although I've went back to abstaining from weed, it just makes me too hedonistic. But I'll be jumping into another mushroom dose within the next 2 weeks. Had a great micro-dosing day yesterday and I realized a couple of key moments where I started to go into this slump and so I can work with that.

Microdosing is a thing I want to try but I haven't yet gathered the courage to do it and there's still some unknowns about dosing and frequency and how it will affect big trips...

I find 1-2 microdoses a month to help in cultivating the foundations of mindfulness. Like giving my heart & mind a mini health examination to check things out and see what’s going on from the fungi induced state that I can then compare and contrast against the sober mind’s POV. Macrodoses are just like dreams for me & I do that pretty much every night anyways so nowadays I feel doing so is mostly an indulgence. But I still like to do it at least twice a year - if for anything - to help evoke a deep sense of the mystical & primal nondual awareness. Helps keep me honest & good natured.

I don't want to say this the wrong way, but I'm glad I saw this post. Obviously it would be better if you were feeling better and didn't have to make this but it helps me a lot because I've been going through the same stuff and was feeling pretty alone in my struggle. Drinking, smoking, lazing around and feeling sorry for myself. I also believe tripping will help, but I think such a state is also possibly a sign that you should try something new in life. For myself maybe returning to school, maybe for someone else lifting weights, etc. Although figuring out just how drastically to change things up is something I struggle with. Some of the posts above that describe the mentality 'the world is fucked' and 'I should've done x instead of y' are very relatable to me whenever I'm in a slump like now.

No need to apologize, I'm glad that my post could bring us all together around our struggles. It also makes me feel better knowing that I'm not alone in my struggle, even though I wish others didn't have to suffer either.
I agree on trying something new, except that, due to world circumstances, we're pretty limited on how much we can branch out. I'm in a pretty restrictive state so everything is still basically closed here. Obviously this is just an excuse because I'm sure that there are plenty of personal things I can start doing.
I hope you find your way out of it as well. I've been 5 months sober and I'm kicking weed to the curb again. I will say, the sobriety from alcohol has really kept me going even when things are tough. I just don't feel that shame or guilt that I felt whenever I drank my problems away in the past.

It seems that your micro-dose strategy is where I'm at. I've tried doing it daily or a few times a week in the past but I felt like I was starting to "need" it at that point. Now I like to micro-dose on occasion (like you said, maybe once or twice a month) and it gives me a bit of a boost, existentially speaking.
But I need a full dose. I've been yearning for a while, just making excuses because of this slump.

Hey, thanks for checking in!
I'm still in the midst of an existential crisis. The lockdowns are weighing on me and I'm thinking a lot about all of the opportunities I had squandered before all of this happened.
However, all things considered, I'm doing well. I'm healthy and had no real COVID misfortune befell me so far. So I feel guilty for my struggle because I see how hard many have been hit by the disease or the economic consequences of it.
But I'm pushing along.
