Struggling as of late, what do you do to get out of a slump?

Hey all,
Hope everyone has been well! I've been MIA from here for a couple of weeks because I've fallen into a bit of a slump and I'm having a hard time getting out.
So long story short, the first month of the pandemic was bad (early March into early April). With work being closed and nothing to do, I resorted to drinking and wasting time.
BUT, mid April, I put myself together. I quit drinking (and I'll be 5 months sober next week), I fixed my diet and, even though gyms were closed, I got back into heavy cardio.
Until mid August I was doing great. Unfortunately, I fell into a slump late August. It also coincided with quitting coffee and having real nasty withdrawal.
Nonetheless, I'm struggling to be productive at work, I've fallen off the wagon a bit when it comes to diet and exercise and all I want to do when I get home after work is binge youtube and pass out.
Worst of all, I haven't tripped in over a month because every time I think about it, I just feel like a failure for being in this slump.
I'm still free of alcohol and now I'm also free of caffeine. But I still have trouble merely existing.
So do you guys have any techniques to get out of bad slumps? I really need to get myself out because I don't want to risk all of the progress I've made.
And I want to feel worthy enough to trip again.
Thanks for reading

Sorry to hear you're going through a shitty time. The pandemic sucks for all of us, but I'm glad to hear you've made some positive changes. Have you considered microdosing? I'm about 2 weeks in, and every day I feel a bit more like Peter Gibbons in Office space. There's just less worry and stress in my life and more creativity. Hell, I started painting again, which is something I haven't done in years. I'm taking about .25g cubensis powder every 3rd day.

I've experimented with it in the past but probably not consistent enough to get the long term benefits. I actually micro-dosed twice over the last two weeks and it helped me get through the day (but I know I need to do it consistently for real results).
I guess I just feel like a failure and I even feel bad for micro-dosing because I feel like I'm wasting the experience (even if it's just micro-dosing) by being in such a slump (and that I should only partake if I put myself together properly).
But you're right, I need to do that for the next month or so to help get myself back on track.

I don't know that I can make you feel like you're not wasting the experience, but from my perspective, if you're using it to better yourself, you're not wasting it. It sounds like you're trying to better yourself, and microdosing can be a great tool to use to that end.

I know that feeling of being in a slump. I am experienced in the slump, getting out of it and going back in lol. You have already accomplished some pretty big things, like quitting alcohol for 5months! and caffeine too if that was a negative. Those are worthy of celebration with mushrooms already! I took my first dose on sunday since June and it was awesome! The internet can be such a draining distraction too, I also have the habit of watching shit on youtube, but I am more mindful of that now. What's something you want to develop in? something you want?

Yea, I've had a problem with binging crap on youtube for the last few months.
I want to spend my free time reading again or just being and listening to music. I used to love just sitting down and listening to a new psychedelic album or going for a nice walk in the woods. Now I need to distract myself from being alive by watching shit on youtube (that I don't even care about, it's just an easy way to pass the time).
I want to really dive into my reading my books (they've been piling up) and get back to writing. I just want to be free of "passing the time" until I go to sleep and repeat the cycle over again.

Just be mindful of what you are doing and what you want to be doing. A little effort can bring something better than just being entertained.

I sit here contemplating these questions in an attempt to help my friend SocratesShroom, and after some deliberations ...
I remind you that an answer will not be found somewhere “out there”. What would resound with me, if I was asking the original questions is this:
Look to your own heart. Open the door of your own heart to yourself - invite yourself in - all of you, warts and all - and be the truest friend to yourself that you would like others to be to you. Gentle, kind, respectful and thoroughly understanding - not inappropriately punitive of natural human mistakes or slumps - but forgiving & loving - inspiring resolve to stay the righteous path. Taking care of your own heart & mind with compassion - living in such a way so that heart & mind are at comfort and ease - that takes real strength and courage. It is not lackadaisical but neither is it scrupulous. It is right in the middle - Goldilocks.
And I believe it is time well spent.
Not fueling craving - not clinging to unrestrained sensuality, or ill will, sloth & torpor, worry & doubt, and obduracy of mind. So as to not be experiencing what is unworthy, namely, evil - which clouds & obscures our natural & innate freedom, clarity, & happiness from ourselves.
If that doesn’t resonate - here’s a list of random things I like to do that are wholesome & lead to my psychic life & life feeling/being clear & good. I like long walks in nature, sitting meditation at dusk & dawn, reading suttras, reading history, cooking & eating a good meal with family/friends or helping them with some chores. A deep & honest dialogue between two or three individuals. Gardening - plants & fungi. Browsing the shroomery, etc etc.

Believe me just about everyone is depressed right now. 2020 has been a horrible year and things are going to continue to get worse because of the election. Just make sure you keep your house clean, Try to walk 4 or 5 miles a few times a week, drink a gallon of water everyday and take vitamins. Stop watching the news and worrying about covid-19 because 90% of it is bullshit.
What helps me is that I understand that all of this shit is temporary. I know there's probably no afterlife with heaven or hell. Once you truly embrace the truth things stop bothering you so much. I wouldn't use mushrooms or anything until you snap out of your depression. You don't need a bad trip right now. Just my advice...

Absolutely. I'm really struggling as of late to be mindful (hence all of the mindless time wasting). Sadly, I'm not even entertained by binging youtube, I actually hate what I'm watching, I'm just struggling to do anything but passing the time.

Thank you for this! I'll need to re-read this many times before I really absorb it but all of it inspires me. I will keep this close to me and refer back to it to remind myself to reflect on my inner peace. I'm glad to be able to call you friend and maybe I just needed to get back to the shroomery and get some sage advice. I'll look at this every time I want to procrastinate life and, hopefully, I'll snap out of it.

I'm not particularly "fearful" of COVID, nor am I dismissive. But the disease itself doesn't bother me, I'm just afraid things won't return to normal and all of the things I missed out on when the world was "normal" will be forever gone.
All of the relationships I could've had, all of the places I should've gone and people I should've met that I missed out on because of my "procrastination" might now be gone for good. And I'm afraid that, in this "new" world, I'll never get another chance at those things. Perhaps that feeling is contributing to this rut (or maybe even the majority of it is due to those feelings).

Sorry you've been hurting man. Ig you have the ability to, channel this pain as best you can. The arts are flourishing right now because so many people are using these uncertain times and weird feelings to create. Pain can be turned into something beyond, but I know that's much easier said than done. Day by day you got this. Much love dude.

damn you cut out coffee too???
I wish you could let yourself drink coffee again, there's nothing wrong with you that is not affecting the world right now.
the world needs you to trip a little or maybe a lot, so do a few more pushups and bite in. let us know how it goes.
also try aeropress coffee with illy espresso grind - fabulous!

I concur, tripping is important in these times.. I'm taking a trip tonight myself, certainly wouldn't mind my cyber friends joining on the journey psychically

I have to advertise my recipe for a great peak: cup of strong coffee around 2hrs in. Man, my spirits just soared into euphoria and I was just thinking and realizing stuff, pacing in my apartment talking to myself and admiring the view on the balcony. I didn't have coffee in the morning like I usually do (I have also been skipping morning coffee lately and drinking it in the afternoon). The rush was real. I highly recommend it. I didn't feel near so great before the coffee.

Thank you I want to take my suffering and create but right now I'm not even "suffering" just feeling dull.

Yea, I'm on and off with coffee. It was giving me stomach issues in the beginning of the year and I had to go to a doctor. So I quit and my problems went away. Then I got back on it and the stomach issues were gone so I drank coffee for a couple months but it just made me jittery and wasn't working anymore (I only drank one cup a day but I started needing 2 just to feel anything from it so I decided it was time to stop). Thank you for the reassurance that I'm not alone in my suffering. I know the whole world is struggling, some can't afford a roof over their head or food and those are the people who are really suffering. Sometimes it makes me feel worse for bitching about my problems when I know there are people truly struggling out there.

There's some amazing advice in this thread!
Sorry you are going through a rough patch, but I think you're doing some great things for your life. I'll echo everyone else but also add this:
One step at a time, my dude!
It is common to think of all the 'big things' in your life that are weighing you down, pushing you further into the slump. It's also important to remember that the little things can be just as impactful too, and that sometimes just taking one step in the right direction is all you need to build some momentum.
Progress is progress. No matter how small. You'll get through it! Plus the support of everyone here is also nice to have, haha.

very awesome that you quit drinking. that is one of the hardest parts. struggling and not feeling in tune is fine as long as you are heading somewhere and don't throw your principles overboard. just think how much time any of us spends not feeling exactly perfect. it's part of the human condition and ideally leads us to strive for more, which has obviously been successful in your case.
i would generally advise against too hard training, the heart is not only a strong, but also a sensitive organ...
and with tripping, i usually have anxiety with ingestion and on on the comeup, which is why i end up taking smaller doses until i reach a desirable level. i don't like strong come ups, going from 0 to 100 in a few minutes. find a way that works for you and don't force the need to trip on yourself. if you don't feel like it, just don't do it and smoke some weed or do something else instead. wait until you really feel the desire to do it again. sometimes our brain needs to work through stuff without psychedelics.
caffeine withdrawal is real. been there, done that, hooked again; as long as it's just that, weed and tripping, i'm fine though i guess.

do something creative if you have any hobby like that. whenever i pull a satisfying pattern combination out of my analog sound modules, it triggers dopamine release and gives me a sense of accomplishment that can trickle down to other life areas
