Slow/Stalled Colonization On One Jar
    #26921443 - 09/06/20 03:50 PM (3 years, 4 months ago)

Hello. I have about 20 quart jars colonizing right now. They're all from a PE clone. I inoculated 2 quart jars 08/03 w small pieces of PE myc on agar (unfortunately I did not take pics of the agar plate that I used).

I shook both quart jars at about 33% colonization. One of the quart jars is only a few days from 100% colonization

The other quart jar, however, is lagging behind quite a bit. I used very small pieces of agar to inoculate these jars because I had issues w/ Trich in my previous grow and wanted to avoid contams

These are the two quart jars in question. The one on the left is the one that is almost at 100%. The jar on the right is barely at like 70%:

Same jars, this time rotated to show other side

This is my 2nd grow ever. In my 1st grow I definitely did not have ideal spawn. I overcooked the grains and didn't dry them properly, so I ended up w/ several jars heavy w/ metabolites and eventually the Trich. To remedy this I decided to use very small "rice-sized" agar wedges to inoculate all of the jars, so I WAS expecting longer colonization times, but THIS long has me concerned

However, so far, to my newbie eyes, I don't see anything overly nasty in any of my jars aside from some excess moisture. I tried to be a lot more careful during my grain prep this time around. I made sure to not have a bunch of burst grains, I dried them by laying them flat on a towel to maximize surface area for evaporation, and I used some gypsum just to be on the safe side and have no clumps

I have 18 more jars that I colonized on 08/11, a week after these two, and many of them have already caught up to this 70% jar

Here are some of the jars from the 08/11 batch, for the sake of comparison:

Anyone see anything concerning? Should I just keep an eye on it or is this kind of progress after over 1 month reason to believe it's a goner?

Thanks for any help.
