Found this on a log in the woods by a river in Arkansas. It did bruise blue/green, has straight gills with a slight yellow color and print is orange/brown

Looks to be some species of pholiota. You can see the characteristic like points of fibrils around the cap....or whatever thats called....look up and compare to pholiota and youll see what im talking about. Maybe a TI will chip in some better knowledge.

The cap had shades of purple/orange/brown stem the same. Gills slightly yellow/brown and inner stem left a yellow stain on paper. Bruised blue/green not heavy and gills were straight

Most of the images of Pholiota show those spikes it did t have those. I wasn’t able to take pics of the others but others I found smaller ones were more of a pale brown with shades of purple and orange. All prints are orange/brown.

That little one looks like pholiota polychroa. Those do have the "spike" on the margins though... i can clearly see them on the larger cap. They may not be as pronounced but theyre there.

I can also see the “spikes” in the photos and agree, looks like Pholiota sp.

Ok that’s a pretty broad spectrum. Trying to see if there’s anyone who might be able to narrow that at all

I mean where science currently stands it’s impossible to distinguish gymnopilus from pholiota micro and macroscopically most of the time or so I recently read. Hesler and Guzman agreed.

What?! Have you ever seen gymnopilus? I agree, there are SOME pholiota that look like gyms but these are 100% pholiota and you are being unreasonable.

I don’t know how I was being unreasonable asking for what kind of pholiota but I apologize if that offended you. Just wanted to hear which group of pholiota.

You didn't offend me man, not even a little. But I did give you a genus and species when I said pholiota polychroa. The unreasonable part was still thinking it was something else even after said identification, but i get it...maybe I was a little vague. I do tend to get wound up sometimes, its a personality fault for sure. My biggest thing is making sure people are safe, so by you not taking my identification and still trying to push this off as a consumable species makes me feel somewhat responsible for your safety and i hope you can see my point man. I understand im not a TI but I do have a fairly good report with some of the TIs here and wouldnt have opened my proverbial mouth if I wasn't confident. There's no love lost man and I hope you stick around and participate in this forum! We all family here and sometime family have little spats, right?
Oh and i want to add this. That article does mention confusion in gymnopilus and pholiota, but the main thing that article is about is the inability to differentiate species of gymnopilus from one another not gymnopilus from pholiota. Alan rockefeller actually just posted something clearing up some of this and it can be found HERE
