Hi guys... don't know where to post this so if it is in the wrong place please correct me.... Are there people here taking shrooms while they are diagnosed with high blood pressure. I am taking Rampil 2,5mg hypotensive capsules daily...
I have only taken shrooms 3 times after being diagnosed with HBP.... it was only 3g dried golden teacher each time.... when i took it when i started to trip i would freak out and i would feel a pressure on my chest and i would feel anxiety and fear a heart attack... My question is can i take higher doses safely and i can't really ask my doctor about it... i really loved taking shrooms and would love to continue taking them...
Any advice would be highly appreciated

I survived 6 months of hard tripping every 2 weeks. 7 to 10g shroom trips and oral DMT trips with untreated high blood pressure. I am 60 and a fit climber/runner.
I would get evil headaches having sex on oral DMT. To the point of having to stop the sex. That was surely dangerous as I never have bad headaches any more now that I take BP meds. Never had any weird side effects on shrooms that would indicate blood pressure issues. I often have joint pain while tripping as I think the shrooms unmask your default-mode ability to tune out low level pain.
I think you have to let go and have zero concerns about you BP while tripping. Just give yourself totally to the experience. If you dwell on the "what if" around BP concerns it will negatively impacts the experience.
Good luck.

It is a legitimate concern because psilocin is a vasoconstrictor, which will increase bp. It's not illegal to ask a doctor about it. It might be safe, but I'm not qualified to say. It does seem like trips can produce intense psychosomatic effects that make physical issues seem even worse.

Psilocybin is in the same family as the anti migraine drugs called triptans. If you look at the warning labels on triptans then it's advised that people who have certain conditions avoid such meds because of the risk of heart attack or stroke.

You probably should ask a doctor. A neutral one, even on the phone or online, or try to reach an association dealing with drugs / risk prevention. You will have the medical clearance and the right "set" to have a good trip. If you're afraid of a heart issue before taking the shrooms, it most certainly won't be a good time.

Yes you can ask your doctor about it and you absolutely should do that.

You need professional medical advice because there are multiple interacting factors: what your BP is without treatment what your BP is now with treatment your age your physical condition any AFib? effects of all medications you are currently using
and of course your previous reactions (quote : "i would freak out and i would feel a pressure on my chest and i would feel anxiety and fear ") indicate caution is advised
And asking folks here, is irresponsible, it is your responsibility to see a medical professional, just as it was when you got your BP prescription.
Nobody here can listen to your heart with a stethoscope, administer a stress test, or do any other possibly advised diagnostic modalities.

Yeah i know but i don't know if i can talk to my GP about it.... it isn't exactly legal to take shrooms.... i went for a ECG and stress ECG and both results were normal with no complications .. my dosage of pills was increased to 5mg though and my blood pressure thus far have been normal now and the pressure feeling on my chest stopped

I don't trip very often, maybe once or twice a year. I take acupril for high blood pressure (on the lower range of high). I also have RA and am 60 yrs old as well. I typically take 50mg viagra which is an excellent vasodialtor to keep the vasoconstriction in check primarily on the comeup. Some people take niacin and it works for them. I agree with Hush that I feel discomfort more in my joints, particularly my feet. I have had some feelings of tightness in my chest but I associated that with the anxiety of the come up. Also, important to note, I have had fairly regular cardio check ups and have a clean bill of health in that category. I understand people wanting you to consult your physician but my issue with that is not the "illegal" thing, it's their lack of understanding of psilocin / psilocybin and how it relates to the human physiology. Most docs only have brief training on mushroom poisoning which is an entirerly different beast and has zero correlation to psilocybes. They would be more concerned with liver issues from these (amanita variety) mushrooms and those toxins. If anything, I would try to contact one of the university medical systems like Hopkins that are actually studying psilocybin and administering it to test subjects. https://hopkinspsychedelic.org/ At least they know what you are dealing with. I would ask a "hypothyetical" question and not directly about you because of liability issues....like how exactly does psilocybin / psilocin affect the cardiovascular system?
Whatever you decide, I would say to go with your gut. Pressure in the chest is one thing, but pain in the chest is a whole other beast.

Generally seems like good advice
there are also other possible concerns: does person in question have dependents? does person in question have a will? does person in question have good health insurance? does person in question have a knowledge of what a stroke can do to a person? does person in question have close family members? does person in question have the unrealistic expectation that a trip will remove future frustrations at the world not complying with his desires?

Doctors are completely confidential and you're just running the risk of harming yourself by keeping it secret.
