Playing with matches as a youth and starting a wildfire is no different than what the industrial revolution has brought about, just on a larger scale.

Nature isn't doing anything but reacting to actions done upon "it", much of which is human influenced

you are right
nothing personal is going on

people may feel that the deck is stacked against them

I don't necessarily think you or many others should feel guilt

Unless, did you start a fire with matches?

I get paid to start fires, so I have no guilt there, either.

"Superficially charming. “The characteristics are they would be superficially charming, but when they see other people in distress ... they don't care,” says Professor Scott."

Can't say that I have been observed being superficially charming...

I don't see why the absence of guilt has to imply such negative connotations, it's simply acceptance of what is.

I have had my moments with hot tempered people. Egging them on might construe 'playing with matches'.

Isn't there a thought that says biology is essentially geology.  Well, however this goes its fine either way then.  It's just geology sorting itself out.  Plate tectonics etc.

Existentially I'm sure there are other opportunities in the cosmos and beyond.  Not reason to kill ourselves deliberately but what can one person honestly do about any of this.  An internal presence is required.

One person can do precious little. Eight billion persons can do about the same.

Actually it's kind of nice to know that a singular person can do so little.  But 8 billion?  Surely 8 billion can create change and alter the planet and stuff.

What does the number of individuals change if a single individual is not in control of anything? We don't control nature, as you pointed out above. Not one of us nor all of us.

Ah I see what you did there.  Well from the standpoint of quantity being a factor that influences whether there is an effect or not on a global scale in terms of the environment.  Surely if one person decided to take 4 showers a day there is no global consequence.  But if 8 billion all decide to take 4 showers a day then resources may get tight.  I do not have to be an expert to solve this basic problem.

It seems you are referring to free will and the lack of it and one person doesn't have it and so nobody does and therefore nobody is in control.  I'm leaning more and more towards that perspective yet the above would still be the case.

It has nothing to do with that. The train is off the tracks. Good intentions won't save us. Try to enjoy the crisis. And I don't mean the virus.

(Truth) I actually haven't showered in months and am a better man for it.
Proof that bathing can be a hysterical fixation. (I sponge off with vinegar 1/gallon a month.)
