Help! Mold?

Hello, This is my first time cultivating mushrooms. I’m using a shotgun fruiting chamber and PF tech vermiculite and brown rice flour. I managed to get a small flush already. But today started to notice this white fuzzy growth on the bottom of my cakes. Is this mold? Or normal mycelium growth? Thanks in advance for any help!

I have never done cakes but the mycelium can get fuzzy in tubs if it needs more FAE so that might be what you are looking at.

Looks like bacterial blotching to me. Post a pic of your set up. Are your cakes on foil and did you dunk for the second flush before putting back into your chamber?

Yea id make sure u have good fae and increase faning frequency for a lil while and make sure the water droplets are actually disappearing in between misting. If the moisture lingers to long then it just be a breeding ground for bacteria and other unwanted things

Also make sure when misting that large water droplets dont form on the lid or foil that the cake is resting on it could pool underneath the cake.

Kinda sounds like it could be the FAE, I had zero contam during my colonization in the jars. I work 24hr at a time so I have a automated run I built with two fans that run every 4 hours for 2 minutes each right after misting. There is always a few water droplets on the side of the container at all times, so that could be my issue. Here is some pictures of my set up. Cakes are on a wire rack that I built to fit the tub.

If you’re running a sgfc you don’t need fans because the plethora of holes gives you enough FAE. You also don’t need to fan with the lid or anything... doesn’t look like you put holes on the lid which most teks call for holes all the way around. I think your cakes may be to dry because of the fans and that’s why they aren’t producing much. Did you dunk for the second flush before you put them back in?
Water droplets is no big thing. You want to mist your perlite and make sure it stays moist. Also you want to elevate your sgfc six inches from what it’s standing on. Did you drill holes on the bottom too? Not sure about the rack ether I’ve always just used tinfoil for bellow the cakes. For optimal performance you want your sgfc to be packed with cakes. I would have used a smaller tote for what you got.
I don’t think it’s bacteria anymore but it may be furry myc because of how you have your cakes on the rack. What Tek did you follow?

Pardon my ignorance but is sgfc “shotgun fruiting chamber”? I did dunk after my first flush for 24 hrs, but the cakes do seem to be drier to the touch then they should be. I drilled holes on all four sides down to the bottom of the tote but not actually on the bottom, would you recommend holes in the bottom? I do think a smaller tote would be smart, would help keep the humidity regular. I used the of tek method for my inoculation but due to my work schedule had to go off recipe a bit for the fruiting chamber to make it automated. Thanks for the information, seems like I got some changes to make.

Yes, it’s shotgun fruiting chamber. I think they are to dry because of the fans. You do want holes on the bottom so any standing water will go through the bottom holes. I recommend trying A humidity chamber instead, or on your next grow. With a sgfc you do want it to be elevated off the bottom at least six inches with holes on the bottom for drainage and mist your perlite to keep it moist. I also spray my sides and the lid to keep humidity up.
How long has it been since you dunked them? 24hrs for a second dunk is a bit much, you usually only need 8-12 hours for a second dunk. Living and learning is the name of the game. If they seem to dry you may want to dunk again, but not if they haven’t been in the fc for to long. Also try CBK’s Bottom Watering Tek, search it and be amazed.
