What kind of contamination is this? MEA agar turned reddish w/ white specs
    #26919173 - 09/05/20 12:17 PM (3 years, 5 months ago)

MEA agar, first picture displays two plates next to each other; one is colonizing normally with no effect to the hue of the plate, whereas the other plate has a dark red appearance to it.

The second picture just shows the underside of another plate that had the same issue.

My inquiry is based on the fact that most contaminants usually only develop on the surface of the agar, whether it be bacterial colonies, aspergillus, trich, etc. This seems to be pervasive throughout the agar, so I'm wondering if this is due to insufficient pressurizing or is just reminiscent of certain mold behavior.

Thanks!

That’s really weird. I’ve seen myc/mold/bacteria suck the color out of a plate but never add color into it.

I’d just assume it’s something horrific.

I've seen red before, not sure whether it's a bacteria/mold or whatever that causes it.  Why so many inoculation points on that dish?

I think that’s all mold. It’s gotta be to discolor the whole plate.
