I'm considering going but I have doubts...

I think the idea is awesome. There may be some sketchy practioners that got licensed  before there were as many regulations. Go talk to a few. Ask about their education.

Works as long as you keep going. But not lasting unless lifestyle changes. Have a cousin who does it, not a hack, but this is truth, it is a maintenance program, not a solution.

A good chiropractor is a godsend. You really dont think about all the nerves that intertwine in your spine until they are hurting.

A couple visists may help alleviate some more immediate symptoms, but going for multiple sessions is required to really reset your alignment and get your body back to as close to normal as can be.

I am a career roofer and so I continually put my body through the same things that got it out of whack in the first place; so I go semi regularly these days. Some people opt not to go as often and feel a lot better after an adjustment every month or so.

Either way I hands down say that a chiropractor will do a lot more for back pain than your general practitioner. Plus if you have a hot female chiro...tell her your sciatic nerve is acting up and she'll rub your butt ....if shes worth her degree :awesomenod:

I heard on the radio some guy said "most peoples back pain is psychologcially / stress induced" which i am happy to believe because my back is not too straight and even a little broken from an old accident but now days doesnt hurt ever

Fuck no they're not.

I used to joke about wanting one, until a few friends pitched in and bought one for my birthday. Those things will fuck your back up.

You know what'll make you're back feel great? Sleeping on the floor. I started doing it recently, and my back has never felt better in my life. Sleeping in a hammock leaves you're back feeling great too, but something about the angle makes me snore so bad it wakes me up.

A chiropractor left me with a likely permanent pinched nerve in my neck and chronic (literally 24/7) headaches and nerve pain throughout the right side of my neck and face, diagnosed as occipital neuralgia.

I had 3 or 4 "adjustments" done after throwing my back out, and they left me with over-manipulation syndrome in my neck which is essentially over strethed ligaments, which don't heal themselves. This caused cercical instability which led to pretty much permanent muscle knots and spasm in my shoulder/neck that constantly compress the nerve that goes to the whole right side of my face. Fun stuff

I'd stay the fuck away. If you're in severe pain they'll get you on your feet a few days sooner if their back cracks reset the right pain signals, but most of what they promote is quackery with short-term benefits at best. Not to mention the risk of injury and possible increased stroke risk from the adjustments.

A TENS/EMS unit and massage gun can be just as good for acute pain as a back crack. For long-term relief you really need a lot of full body stretching and strenghthening, plus postural work and good biomechanics

From what I know, the foundations of chiropractics are complete pseudoscience or non-science, but some people allege that it truly helps them. I heard a spine surgeon's perspective on chiropractic, I think in this video
and I thought his "Surgery as a last resort" perspective is a good idea. That said, I agree Blewmeanie when he says you should go for a massage before an adjustment. People have definitely died from botched chiropractic https://www.acsh.org/news/2016/10/20/if-you-think-chiropractors-cant-kill-you-think-again-10334 is one such case.

So if you do go to one, make sure they have stellar reviews. But that said I would not encourage it.

Anyone thinking about visiting a chiropractor should really read up on the history first, particularly Daniel David Palmer, the guy that created it. They've done a good job of propagandizing it to make it seem like medicine, but it was straight up quasi-magical fraud from the very beginning. There's no basis to it what-so-ever.

Get an ugly asian girl to beat the fuck out of your back. You'll feel great afterwards. Massages are amazing, and you might get a blowie out of it if you pick the right place (leave $75 splayed out  on the table next to your stuff when you get undressed).

I have been to a chiropractor for my lower back hernia

It helped but I wasn't amazed by it either. I think I could have gotten the same results from a good physical therapist

The thing that put me off the most was the cost. Here only a small percentage falls under the health insurance package as its labeled an alternative healing method. Physical therapy is fully covered.

You pay like €75 a session with about €25 of that covered by insurance. Now in itself Im fine with that but after the first long session, a session is basically 10 minutes of doing some cracks on my back

Just feels like im getting cheated

I've been using a Chiropractor for over 20 years and would NEVER go back to an MD for my back issues.

My right leg is about 19mm shorter than my left leg. This causes serious issues in my spine. I can have pain anywhere from my hips to my neck because of this.

Before I realized what the problem was I would go see my MD and he would give me muscle relaxers that didn't really help. Then one day my back spasmed out so bad while in the shower that I needed someone to lay hands on me, so I scheduled my first appointment with the local chiropractor. I walked out of his office like a new man and have been seeing him ever since.

So, if you're having back pain, I would highly recommend going to see one.

When my chiropractor first told me about the short leg, we did try a small 3mm heel lift. He even told me that some people adjust to the heel lift better than others, and there was no guarantee it would help me.

The issue lies in the fact that I was already 30 years old when it was discovered. I had been very physically abusive to my body (lots of hard manual labor) and because of this my skeletal structure had tried to make its own adjustments and produced bone spurs in many of my major joints.

The first bone spur was found by a podiatrist in my heel.

I actually had to have one bone spur in my shoulder shaved down about 10 years after learning about the short leg. It was tearing my rotator cuff and causing a LOT of pain.

Now, had this been discovered while I was younger, say in my late teens or early twenties, and given an orthopedic shoe then, I wouldn't be dealing with this issue now.

I wore the 3mm heel lift for about three months and had to give it up, it made the issue far worse, due to the already present bone spurs throughout my body.

I've never been to one. It's worth noting that chiropractors are not required to have a doctorate to practice. In other words, chiropractors are not necessarily medical doctors. There are probably some chiropractors who have doctorate degrees, maybe even some who are medical doctors. However, you should know that this isn't a requirement. So, first of all, if you're going to see a chiropractor, it might be worth looking into their credentials.

Second of all, I'll ask a question: if you're going to go see a chiropractor because you have a back problem, why not just go see a medical doctor instead? About eight years ago, I suffered a pretty rough back injury. I went to a physical therapist at the hospital in my town. She had a medical school degree, which (I assume) required her to have an understanding of the human body. She assessed my problem and then taught me a routine of stretches to practice regularly. I practiced the stretches on my own as instructed, and my problem slowly got better. These days, I don't have to do the stretches anymore (I still stretch, but I don't need to stick to the same rigorous routine that I learned after my injury). In other words, my back problem is basically cured. Thus far, I haven't had to see her again for that same issue.

Finally, I'll end with an anecdote, so take this last point with a grain of salt. Everyone I know who has seen a chiropractor has had to go multiple times for the same issue. In other words, it doesn't seem like it's a permanent solution. It seems like, to a certain extent, the chiropractor's business depends on your need to return for regular maintenance. You could go to a chiropractor every few months to get your back fixed up, but why not instead get a foam roller and a yoga mat and start a daily stretch routine? It takes a little more work, but it's a lot cheaper and it's a permanent solution. Besides, after a while, stretching doesn't really feel like work anymore. It's fun! It's never to late to start stretching, and the sooner you begin doing it, the sooner your back will improve.
