Shaken WBS jar question
    #26919391 - 09/05/20 01:47 PM (3 years, 4 months ago)

Ok, so I currently have some WBS jars colonizing. They are ~25% colonized at the moment. When I prepared them, I read that a good way of regulating the moisture is to put a small amount of verm at the bottom of the jar before putting the WBS inside. In theory, it would absorb any excess moisture. Forgetting that I put verm at the bottom, I shook a jar to spread the mycelium throughout the rest of the WBS. My jar is now a homogeneous mix of verm and WBS. Have I ruined this jar? Will the verm mess up the moisture level of the WBS?

No you should be fine.  The vermiculite should absorb extra water if there was any, even if it's shaken around.  It won't steal all the water from the grains or anything.

I used to do that too and it seemed like the wet verm actually helped make up for lost moisture sometimes.
