Rye Berries to Monotub

Good morning,
I have recently switched over from brf/verm cakes to rye berries in quart jars. I was inoculating with spore syringes on cakes and have moved to agar to rye. This is my first monotub with my rye. I believe it is 6-7 quart jars spawned at a ratio of 1:2 to coir/verm. I had been using lower spawn ratios with brf/verm cakes so I am just trying to determine if this tub is looking normal. It looks covered in "overlay" (not sure if this is the right term) and I was wondering if this looks good to the community?

How's your tub going on? Not the best sign if myc bulbs up that kind. What variety we're looking at?

Hey I discovered there was a small contam growing on one side so I am guessing my spawn was not perfectly clean (ripped it out with a spoon to hopefully get a first flush). The tub still looks pretty much the same and no pins have started developing. The surface conditions look a little on the wet side currently.
The strain is Mazatapecs that I cloned from a brf/verm grow.
Any thoughts? I had a really hard time finding any pics of people using rye berries in monotubs and what a healthy tub would look like in that regard. I just made a second tub from the same genetics (G2Ged one of the jars from my first grow). I will be curious to see how this one goes as I used less water in the substrate.

Here is another update with pictures. The tub has begun to pin and looks like it will be successful in some regard. A second tub is also pictured that was made from rye berries that received G2G transfers via one of the jars from the first batch. I also did that again and the third set is just finishing colonizing. One of the jars from the second and third series visibly contaminated green.
I will be curious how the various tub designs I use will affect the surface. I will continue to post updates but I am mainly curious about the prolific puffing on the surface.

That's looking funky. Maybe bacterial and maybe too wet. Also maybe both.
I would increase FAE. In my opinion.
This is my rye berry/ coir tub after a little over a week.

I dont see that producing anything.
A proper casing might give it a chance, but it's best to start over.

Pretty much all the tubs you see pics of are rye, wheat, oats, or WBS. And they all look similar once spawned to coir.
I remember someone mentioning maz as often having really thick or funny looking myc. Aka I think. But I still think something is funny about all those bulbs

That is an insane specimen of bacteria. AND you were carving out chunks of trich? Assuming you have no other totes to worry about and you can THOROUGHLY sanitize your grow area/equipment before starting on another batch I say let it ride and keep this thread updated with super detailed pictures of the development of this fiasco for both entertainment purposes, and for the noobs to help people see how the cookie crumbles some times 🤘

I will do so at least for the first flush of mushies to come through as I am sorta counting on this tub to do some producing. After use it will be receiving a steaming hot bath in bleach water along with a spraydown of the harvest room. I will update as I have time. I just got a new laptop so I have lots of setup to do!

Never a good idea. Always have a backup and never put all your eggs in one basket unless you have given them a thorough ultrasound.
I dont see that thing producing.

What do you think of the second tub that I posted? I am new to using rye berries as spawn and believe I have some contam that is similar ish looking to myc causing me to be unable to distinguish the difference.

Try to case it. Fruits are going to have a hard time forming on that matted surface

Do you think my spawn was contaminated? Would you mind checking out the pics and short write up that I have linked here https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/26918848 I would appreciate any comments. PS your weiner dog is awesome! I have two back home and they are sincerely loved.

It was all bacterial.
Thanks! His name was tanker and he was an awesome little guy who was really smart and loyal, knew quite a few tricks too!
I miss that little fucker, he was killed by a big dog (i think) a few years ago.
P.s. he was a min pin

Shit that hurts to hear man. Well I’m guessing the first of these photos of fully colonized jars are bacterial as well. What about the next set of photos with agar wedges, are they clean? I plan to go G2G with them in a couple weeks.

The fully colonized ones are slightly bacterial aswell and would do better individually spawned to shoeboxes.
The partially colonized ones look good.
Give em a shake now and take a picture in 24 anf 48 hours to check recovery.

I am going to spawn the bacterial ones to a tub as there are a half dozen and then will continue moving forward with the agar ones. Though I have a batch of grains PCing right now as I planned to take the PE jar and G2G it to those because I already put in the work and I hate to toss the grain.
I will give those jars a shake and post pics in a couple days to show progress!

I don't like to mix bacterial spawn together, i prefer to use them seperate.
But do you boo! you are on the right path and i love that you are keeping a rotation. Keep up the good work!
