1st time Lion's Mane jars. Mold?

One picture is with the whispy white growth that if this was a cubensis jar, I would just assume mold. But the jar that is fully colonized looked similar a week ago (a couple days after doing a grain to grain transfer of what was thought to be contam free LM). Thoughts?

Jar on the left is how it should look. A lot of people say to shake lions mane to keep it from fruiting in the jar. I’ve never had one get as far as that second pic.
First one is ready to go.
It is really weird coming from cubes, I’ve run lions mane a few times now and still get the “oh shit mold” feeling for a second when I look at it sometimes.

Thanks! Much appreciated. Yeah, seems wild the differences between the two. Finding LM pretty challenging.
Thanks again for the help!

They look fine to me, the second jar is already overdue to be spawned Lion's mane is always doing this, first the growth is super whispy and thin (but fast as heck), and then it turns thick and white almost within a day and starts fruiting before it's even fully colonized. I now shake my jars after a few days even if it looks like there is hardly any mycelium. But there is, it's just very hard to see. When there is whispy growth in the whole jar like the first one, it's ready.

You want to spawn them when they look more like the left one.

So what do I do the the jar that's already pinning? Just open up the jar a bit?

You can still spawn that one, just break it up really well.

Are you wanting to top fruit it?
I think you’d just open it and lay it on its side. I’m not sure if it would do better cased with something though but I’m curious cuz I’m planning on something similar.

If you case it you will lose a lot of fruit cause it will just engulf the casing layer and you'll have all this casing stuff in with your mushrooms.
Better to just top fruit it if you wanna do that, I just don't like doing that because it's a pain to harvest. Hard to separate the fruit from the grains.
A better idea would be to find those PP5 bottles they use in asian countries and fruit through the much smaller hole. They're basically like a plastic coke bottle, but autoclaveable. They grow kings and a lot of other stuff that way. Then you just snip the mushroom right off the top.

Sorry, I'm new to mushroom cultivation, and brand new to Lion's Mane. You mean I could spawn it to something like a fuel pellet substrate in a bag (if I had such supplies, which I don't currently).
Otherwise the next best thing would be to top fruit it then, correct?
Thanks so much for the help!

Yes I would recommend a fuel pellet substrate. Totally worth the $4 cost of a bag of fuel pellets.
But if you have to you could top fruit. I've never tried fruiting LM from straight grain, so don't know how it will do

I'm giving it a go (top fruiting) given no other options at this point. I think the yield will be crap but at least it's a proof of concept of sorts. Thanks.

I’ve seen lots of good lions mane from top fruiting. It works best if you keep the jar on its side though so the teeth can hang down.
