Projectors.
    #26918091 - 09/04/20 07:37 PM (3 years, 5 months ago)

I've been researching projectors for a bit and apparently a decent one is going to start around 600.00. but I don't want to spend 600+. Really, under 300.00 sounds about right.

I'm looking for suggestions from any sort of techy and or entertainment guru.

It will mainly be used outside and watched from our pool.

Since watching from the pool generally demands absolute theatrical representation, you should just pick one you can afford. It doesn’t matter.

Do you expect to be able to watch it during the daytime? If so, it's not gonna happen.

His pool might be in a cave or something.

Given that he only wants to pay $300 for a projector I'd assume he doesn't have the $ for a cave pool.

Are they really that expensive? I don't know anything about projectors, but there are quite a few with great reviews in the 300 - 500 range. What's wrong with them?

There's nothing wrong with cheap projectors. You're just not going to get enough light out of any projector let alone a cheap one to produce a usable image in daylight.

I mean, I remember play mario brothers on a projector in the 90s without any issues, so it can't be that bad.

Or do you mean outside?

Look into 2nd hand to get a feel for what to expect. I see them on Craigslist for less than your budget all the time.

I have a sub $200 projector and it would work fine for that. Assuming you are talking about watching movies from the pool at night.

Audio quality is not amazing though, using other speakers would be a good idea.

I ended up going with this one.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07WS7XFLG?ref=ppx_pt2_mob_b_prod_image

250.00 with a 3 year warranty. And yeah, it will be at night.

I would understand dropping a bit more coin if the projector was going to be our main source of video entertainment, but it's not. To be honest, we prob won't even use it all that much.

At that price point, just get whatever you can afford.  HD would be nice if you can find it.

Home theater is liked a lot of other hobbies where the skys the limit with costs.  Just my screen was like $1500.

Yeah, like I said. It won't be used everyday or even every week for that matter... The one I found claims to be HD with high lumens but we shall see.

Buy a fucking projector screen. Sick of people who project on side of house then say its not bright enough when a high quality screen would clear that right up.

We were talking about setting up a thick white sheet for now...

The projector gets here tomorrow so I had planned on grilling and then watching a movie from the pool once it gets dark, but it looks like it will be rainey for the next few days.

The sheet wont really do shit, I seriously recommend a screen due to their composition and the way they are woven you maximal reflection with minimal distortion.  A sheet is fine for night viewing, just make sure its pinned down, and if its windy expect it to ripple.
