Gymnopilus junonius?
    #26917962 - 09/04/20 06:37 PM (3 years, 4 months ago)

Habitat:
Growing on a hardwood

Gills:
yellow, attached,

Stem:
2", 3/4", yellow, thick, slowly bruising reddish brown, flesh more so, ring zone

Cap:
1.5" , orange yellow, bruising greenish, smooth, convex

Spore print color:
not enough spores down yet to get a positive color, but appears brown

Bruising:
Cap bruising greenish, stem flesh red/brown (more thorough), stem skin red/brown

Other information:
Scent is almost sweet, but i'm terrible at that sense. This looks to be a younger specimen as the veil was still attached in one spot.

****

Also still wondering if this is G. luteus? Do I need a microscope to determine species? The thin stem makes me think G. luteus. This one was growing on poplar.

Thanks in advance.

Found another with a thin stem today - same orange-brown spore print. Really curious about these, also wondering if any of these specimens are likely to be active.

This looks more like Photiola multifolia.

Thanks, Don. From what little I can gather off a quick google search, it can be very similar looking. I'll have to keep looking!

Edit - Found some more info, and I believe you're right.

Still don't know about the fat-stemmed guy.

I agree with donjonson420,  you have 2 different species.
