Using agar dishes from awhile ago..
    #26917324 - 09/04/20 12:06 PM (3 years, 4 months ago)

What's up my beautiful people - getting ready to do another grow here shortly. Has been awhile, as I had more mushrooms than I needed but the stash is running low now:lol:

Anyway, I made tons of dishes awhile back (like 8 months ago). They have stayed in the fridge and have not been touched. I've read that dishes can lose their moisture content leaving the dish useless, though I have not read on a time frame that becomes an issue.

I planned on dropping some spores to a dish here.. but if odds are not favorable of getting growth.. i will take the initiative to making new dishes. But if 8 months seems reasonably possible that the dishes may still succeed, I will be a happy camper.

Looking for people who have been in this boat before as im sure there's quite a few of you.. amd if you can save me from wasting a step in either direction.. i would highly appreciate it:)

You could try both...

Depending on conditions some cultures can lose vigor if stored for long periods. You could inoculate a plate with spores and try to revive an older culture. See which one wins you over.

I think Vibe is talking about unused plates...

Have a look at them. The agar will shrink when it dries out. If the plates look pretty normal and the agar hasn't pulled away from the sides, I'd give them a try. I've had a half sleeve stored in a SAB at room temp for several months now and they have not visibly dried out(nor grown any crud). They should have been refrigerated, but I didn't expect to use them.

"I thought to myself 'Boy, I'm sure glad there's nobody here to see this because this is exactly the sort of thing that gets people riled-up and they assume you're dying and that something has to be done. Where if you're alone, you know, you either come through it or you die, but in any case you avoid the fuss.'"
