I looked at my profile and saw I became a member i 09
thats more than 10 years ago
I was shocked at how I did
I worked with phones and meditated 2000 hours
and did yoga and school
but I came to the realization that I must have done twice as good
like I earned 2000000 points
and lost 5000000
thats minus 3000000 pints
!!!
and I cared about it and was reasonably resourceful and happy and willing and caring
so Im wondering how can we do better get more out of our time
what mattes most
what can we do that is better
how do we make others not make the same mistake
how do we get the children to do as good as possible
and all there will be

Good questions. I wish I had some semblance of an answer.
I think good investments of time include practicing mindfulness, whether it's yoga, meditation or walking in nature; developing the skills to have a livelihood that you consider ethical and meaningful; and being there for the people in your life who you care about or who need you.
It's also good to spend lots of time creating art for its own sake, or with the intention of using it to heal.
If I could take the next ten years of my life and decide right now how much time I'd allocate to different activities, it would look a lot different from the past ten years of my life.
Just riding the wave I guess is what we're doing, and distracting ourselves by thinking we're controlling where it goes or we could be riding it more stylishly.

My body I will give to pleasures, to diversions that I’ve dreamed of, to the most daring erotic desires, to the lustful impulses of my blood, without any fear at all, for whenever I will— and I will have the will, strengthened as I’ll be with contemplation and study— at the crucial moments I’ll recover my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

I have a good friend (and great liberal thinker) who has been among other things - "a Judge in the Criminal courts".
While off duty he loved wearing a hat that said "Fail Better".
this little know aphorism really says it all.
be aware that you fail when you fail and do it with dignity and kindness.
I want a hat like that, but today mine has an owl on it from OVO.

Not running away from suffering. This is time well spent. Knowing, comprehending, and transcending suffering. That is time well spent.
Time is always being spent. To be so wise that we burn bright enough to know the peace of the deathless. That is time well spent.

I think being honest and kind to ourselves makes it 100000 times easier to be that way with others. It's very difficult to give to others what we cannot even give to ourselves.

I reckon one way to spend your time wisely is to work at seeing your time as being spent wisely. Or said another way, don't beat yourself up for the unwise acts and keep a focus on the wise ones.
I don't think there is a universal sense of what it means to be wise. Just be you

Well it's interesting. . . .for sure. . . Why not practice an art or discipline?
It's one thing to do anyway.

Living life is a practice in discipline, at least for many of us I think
