Anyone Else on Shroomery Enjoy Death Metal?

Any variety; I love the early 90's tech death stuff. What an era. Some of the best musicianship of all time took place!
Anyone else dig bands like Death, Gorguts, Malevolent Creation, Cannibal Corpse, Atheist, Cynic, Pestilence, etc.?
100% prepared for nobody to give a shit about this thread, but I figured it's worth a try.

I stopped really liking older death metal like those you listed a few years back. I like more melodic death metal. Less heavy of course, but more enjoyable and easier to listen to more of.
Stuff like these two, I can see Cannibal Corpse fans hating stuff like this though . Although, maybe I'm wrong, but I heard Cynic was pretty progressive and melodic for death metal.

Also, I still can't hear "Cannibal Corpse" without thinking of the famous Ace Ventura scene, after idk how many years.

Nah man I love it all, you don't have to pick. Cynic is progressive as hell especially with 1993's Focus. That's my personal favorite.
A lot of the early progressive tech death bands used subtle melody that's actually the genius behind it, IMHO. Nocturnus Thresholds and Death Human are good examples!
Cannibal Corpse scene in Ace Ventura is timeless/legendary! Ever seen the extended, uncut scene?!

I don't think so. I haven't watched the movie in like 12 years. I'm starting to check out those bands you mentioned though.
I don't like deathcore, but I do like this russian deathcore lol. This was a sort of meme recently because the vocals sound like they came from deepest pit of hell. Listen all the way through

I love metal. But i feel like metal is kind of dead. Everything has been done before. Metal is so same-y. Still, its fucking awesome.
I really like prog and tech death
Highly recommend Meshuggah!!

Hell no. All genres are "same-y" that's how they become genres in the first place lol. Metal has more variety and unique sounds than any type of music I know of, it's the only genre I can think of that has so much variety that you get a bunch of douchey infighting about subgenres lol. Rap and stuff like indie are the most monotonous by far, in my opinion at least.

yeah all genres are same-y. haha thats the point
even metal that does everything and constantly changes etc has been done. haha a part of metal is to deviate from metal. you see what I mean?

Death is #1, Cannibal Corpse is siick, Gorgoroth is heavy as fuck.. I would add Bolt Thrower to that list. Not exactly the same, but so so so good. I did not think about metal headz being an anomaly amongst people that are on this site, until this post...things that makes you say hmmmm.. Stay Metal! ps The Locust is(was) badasss!

Great to see a few more posts in this thread!
I agree that overall metal has become stale. I think the key is just writing good riffs. The more innovative you can get with your creativity, the more genuinely unique stuff starts to shine IMO.
It's getting harder and harder to do; I stepped away from the scene for a solid 5-7 years. The last band I was in was signed to a label and did a record. It was not nearly as fun as I'd dreamed it would be. Now I'm looking to personally start a part-time at-home project with a couple others. I'd love to put an EP out at some point next year (2021).

Death is my top metal band of all time, in general, for whatever sub genre we're talking.

I prefer the blend of death core and death metal.
Not a fan of constant breakdowns, but also not a fan of strict "meat-and-potatoes" death metal.
but all the bands mentioned so far are awesome.

The band I posted above seems to have my ideal mix of hardcore and death metal. They were already good a few years ago from what I heard but they blew up in popularity months ago after this song came out, because the vocals are actually straight from him. Idk anyone that can sound like this dude
I used to love Cattle Decapitation..but I'm too much of a meat eater to be listening to vegan music lol.

Yes. But not so much the kind posted here, except Death.
Teitanblood. Not simply death metal. It's beyond everything that has ever been created. Nothing compares.
Autopsy. Among the first. first albums are still among the best in the genre.
Dismember (old Dimember!) Old-school Swedish death Fucking epic.
Death Breath. Newer, but old-school style, Swedish death.
Obliteration, More "modern", but still with the right vibe.
But it's also important to note that Thrash is the thing, death is silly comparison. There I need to mention one album: Nekromantheon. Most aggresive thrash I can find.

Deicide is about the only death metal band I ever got into. I like Bathory's "Call From the Grave," though. I tend more toward black metal like Dimmu Borgir and Mayhem. And of course the doom metal band Type O Negative is one for the books.

I'm into a variety of metal genres. Off the top of my head the only death metal band I enjoy is Semblant which I listen to on occasion. I find their song What Lies Ahead to be catchy. Very deathly in my opinion....

I don't care what wikipedia says... That shit has nothing to do with death metal. Nothing what so ever. And it seems it's listed at "gothic metal" at last fm and metal archives, I would argue those sources are more relevant when it comes to genre definitions...
Either way, they, you, and everyone else using genres in this way need to stop de-valuate their meaning.

yeah. semblant may have death metal influences, but that music is not death metal. Its hard rock or alternative metal at best. nothing wrong with it.... just not death metal

Right. Wikis very wrong, says melodic death metal. This would be melodic death metal. I know I post this band a lot, but I just loved this album so much lol.

The Black Dahlia Murder is a good example of melodic death metal imo.

I just found those guys. I googled to see if there were any new or somewhat new bands in the last few years that were death METAL not any kind of core. I like those guys a lot already, definitely have an authentic sound.

Does Cradle Of Filth count? I love their track that goes "This is the end of everything". I sing this every day this year! I always forget the title of this song.

I'd say they count. All extreme metal is welcome! I had the first several CoF albums in high school, lol. Lovecraft and Witch Hearts double disc was my go to.
