Hello, i decided to do a 5 day solo backpacking trip at the beginning of june and i'm really excited about it. I will finally have a car and have been wanting to do a solo again for a long time. I'm currently in ohio and am willing to drive up to 8 hours to go somewhere cool.
I've been to the smokey mountains before and loved it, otherwise i haven't done any backpacking out east. I have heard a lot about teh AT as well. I was wondering if any of your outdoorsy folk would have recommendations on a cool place in any direction from me where to go (preferably south southeast.) For a 5 day trip.
thanks for your time!

that sounds like a cool idea, but as i think more of it, id be a bit creeped out to go hiking in the woods/mountains alone, probably because ive never been hiking? well good luck

take a good knife or gun or bear spray or something to defend yourself with.

You could try part of the Sheltowee trace trail in Daniel Boone National Forest, in Ky.

I have been on parts of it, though never for 5 days - parts near trailheads can be crowded, but you don't have to go far to get to places where you're unlikely to see more than 1 other person/group in a day.
The parts I've been on were wooded and hilly, and regularly marked with a turtle symbol. There are parts that go across private land or along a road; you'll want to get maps.
I can't really say a whole lot more - I haven't gone on any significant portion of the trail.

I've been in tons of places around Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Virginia, etc when I was a little kid... I'll give my parents a call and find out what they were called... it was a long time ago
most recently I've been up and around sleeping bear dunes, basically all of the dune-forest-lake michigan areas are great fun, but not so scenic as they are just a great place to camp and party with friends.
and, of course, sogn og fjordane county in western norway is always beautiful for camping and hiking
