How to identify ideal agar samples
    #26914736 - 09/02/20 10:53 PM (3 years, 5 months ago)

How does this look? I want to transfer small sections of this to a couple other sterile plates I got in the fridge. Do I wait until this is completely colonized?

Tomentose, I'd let it grow more and see if any better looking sections show up. And no, you don't let the whole plate grow out. You want to transfer myc from the leading healthy edge of new growth as that is where the myc is most aggressive as it takes over an increasing surface area of nutrients. Nice and young strong myc is key, letting it grow out the whole plate you will start to see senescence as the myc runs out of fresh nutrients, settles down, ages, and degrades.

ok thanks that helps clear up that question. I checked on this plate today and I noticed strange condensation. Can you provide insight as to whatโ€™s going on here?

Yeahhh you need to let it colonize so you can let the (if any) contaminants creep out. The condensation, is just condensation.. it won't hurt anything but if it's bothering you gently place a hot glass of water on top of the plate until it's gone ๐Ÿ‘.

Be patient and keep it simple.

That'll do her. โ˜๏ธ

While not a major problem, condensation does suck when you're trying to see what your working with before opening the plate.
