Question.... using LI with oats

Oat prep calls for soaking and or boiling then draining the grain until its' dry before loading into jars. But my question is why is it so important to get the oats dry/dry for a few hours when 30 ML of LI will go into each quart after PC? Anyone??? Bueller?

Because the jars will have excessive moisture otherwise and the myc will have a difficult time colonizing them.

Did you read the part about pouring 30 ML of LIQUID inoculate after the PC cycle?

teks I see here suggest 25-50 ML of LI p/quart jar. So if you just add 30 ML per quart then whys is the moisture of the grains important before PC? You can dump it in a strainer and come back later and it won't pass the toilet paper test so you have to spread it out to air dry. In the effort to prep larger quantities of grain for LI why is straining alone not sufficient? I feel like I'm sitting and watching the paint dry when it seems I will be adding way more liquid anyway. Appreciate solid reasoning and info.

1. soaking any grain will wake up all hidden contaims.
2. boil will kill all hidden contaims and will add moisture to grain and that moisture will be present inside of grain.
3. soaking and boiling comes down to drying grains all the moisture that is out side of grain in form of droplets or steam need to be evaporated before loading the jars. if drying of grain step is skip and pc the grains will end up with a pool of water on bottom of grain jars. pool of water means bacteria to take over sooner or later.
4. 30ml of lc inoculation to 1 quart or almost liter of grains is not that much once jar is shaken and distribute that moisture and if you already have a pool of water at bottom of grain jars on walls of grain jar that moisture combine with lc water that makes a lot of standing water no matter how much you shake later water will pool at bottom.
5. drying grains as much as possible is a necessary step because mycelium don not need moisture from walls of grain jars or bottom pool water they will get there water from moisture inside grain and thats what you aim for when you dry grains after boil. once grains are dry enough they can take 30ml of lc. people had success with 10ml too, to be on the safe side
i use 2-3ml per half quart and 5-7ml per quart otherwise it always agar wedge didnt got in to issues. instead of soak i clean wbs wash out all kind of dirt dead bugs drain them pc for 20 minutes then boil for 40 minutes or the point when grains look hydrated

So, you're going to add a bunch of extra moisture to the jars anyway, so your thinking is why not go to town I guess? THREE ml of LC is plenty FYI.
