Firefox is burning and Goog & Microstuff are taking over
    #26915216 - 09/03/20 09:06 AM (3 years, 8 months ago)

It's just getting so weird. Is this the right place to ask?
Is Firefox getting crushed/attacked by the big two? It's turned unusable.

I'm all for open source, Mozilla, Duck Duck Go.
So when I had to go back to Chromedome three of the news articles were about mush. WTF!

I do have Ubuntu, but it's difficult to use. And the wife would never...

I'll stop there and see what anyone thinks.

I don't find ubuntu that hard to use, nowadays most apps like office have replacements on it and the interface is pretty intuitive and requires little configuration compared to before, but then again I've been using it for a few years now.

The biggest gripe I have with firefox is that some stuff just won't work on it, like google meetings or some web apps. It sucks that development is mostly being done for chrome, since it's a further killing of privacy on the net. But it's far from being unusable from my point of view.

Hmmm, so weird, I'm not seeing anyone else here or Reddit concerned.
Well....  carry on!

What's the problem you're having? They're definitely having funding troubles, but they said they would look for other economic models to support their endeavor.

It's the Android app on my phone and tablet. It's been completely redone.
There's no Back button for example. More exasperation here

Sorry dude, interfaces get changed and updated.

Send them feedback if you don't like the changes.

I never installed firefox on mobile, It seems fine to me on pc but all browsers are more "bloated" than they used to be.

People freak out when they see things they talked about pop up as advertising. Probably because they don't want alexa suggesting their kink to a new significant other or spouse.

Unfortunately it appears that firefox usage has been steadily going down, maybe because of app changes. I think it sucks, as I am a firefox user... but there has been some odd and major issues with it over the last year. They are generally resolved, but that could be the other reason people are settling for google and microsoft stuff. One issue that comes to mind is several months ago when they did some update and it changed profiles making it look like bookmarks were suddenly gone.

I was just testing out CCleaner Browser and AVG Secure Browser, and they are literally identical to each other, aside from small things like colors. Weird... Wtf.

I thought Firefox was doing well? They just released their own VPN, I think. Also, Opera Beta isn't so bad, and I tested Opera Neon and it wasn't able to fully load the Reddit homepage.

Maxthon seems promising, although slow at times. The mouse cursor lagged a bit after closing it. Tor is still too slow and unable to go on most websites without having to do a never-ending series of captchas.

Google Chrome is my default browser, but I don't really use that for browsing on sites that I want to be safe on.

I tried out some of the browsers on the Microsoft Store and 95% of them seem to be utter shit, except for Chromatic Browser, Operatic Browser, and Enchromed Browser. They're all very small in size... like 15mb or something, and only seem to be able to have one tab open at a time. I tried opening another window and wasn't able to.

Therefore, I am not anyone.

I thought Opera was sold to some sort of ad agency several years ago. I have never been much of an opera user anyways.  As far as firefox, I do like all the new things they are doing, I just hope they last.

I switched from chrome to firefox as my daily browser but still use chrome because of work.

I really don't like firefox but continue to use it out of principle. damn thing... wish it didn't suck so much now :frown: some times when it crashes or i restart my pc it won't load a freakin' page for about 10 minutes but it still gives me "Recommended by Pocket" crap on the new tab page.

I've gotten a couple of good things from Pocket. It was actually an article on Pocket(how to do PF Tek, published in Medium) that got me into Mush cult.

I always make sure to search for the actual article source because I am not a fan of the content model of things like Google AMP or Pocket.

Yep, private but goog and fidelity has 10%.

In 2015, SpaceX raised $1 billion in financing from Google and Fidelity, which took a combined 10 percent stake in the company.Apr 13, 2018.
