Do bags need something that acts as a filter if not using one?

Is there a filter equvilent for bags? Do you need to manually regulate the air or would you put hole in bag and just take more risk of contamination?

...use the search function
Not trying to be a dick but you clearly didn't even try to research the wealth of information on here making a new thread for this question.
Having said that, yes you need gas exchange, and no you can't just poke holes in bags. Myco bags come with filter patches and there are different options for different uses.

If you don't have a filter patch how would you do the gas exchange?

your fungi need to breathe and you dont want contaminates to enter while its colonizing. You can make filter patches out of whatever, but it wont be very good. IMO I say that the filter patch is necessary for bags

If you don't use a filter patch is there any other way to regulate the air?

No.
They won't work you are wasting your time. And ours apparently...
Throw the bag you are trying to jerry-rig into the trash and then spend some time using the search engine my friend,.

Yeah. Dont try to reinvent the wheel! Bags with filters are cheap as hell. Jars with polyfill are cheap as hell. No need to cheap out on $.25 - 1.00

It's all good broskie, welcome to the community. The search engine will save you a lot of guesswork and questions. We all start somewhere, and we should all start here.

Poke a hole and put a couple layers of Micropore tape over it.

That is certainly an option. Mushrooms can be had in many ways. Assuming he has excellent sterile technique and sufficient know how, if OP wants to go that route, while he's at it he'd also need to account for gas exchange not just a micropore tape to cover the injection hole, and I've seen people jerry-rig polly into the twisted top of a regular bag. Would I recommend it? Well... I will stick with my first recommendation lol, chuck it and spend the pennies necessary on a legit myco bag and follow solid teks.

Yeah I guess micropore tape layers MIGHT work.
