Heya boys and girls and those inbetween!
I've been lurking around here for 6 years now, occasionally posting an ID here or there. A big shoutout to all you beautiful people; thank you for being the community, the knowledge, the magic, the answers.
For 5 YEARS, that's half a freaking decade, I have not found any of my local favs; P. Subaeruginosa - the 'ol Golden Top. Some Winters I have been blessed to spend abroad in EU\UK and some years the weather wasn't right and made for disastrous shroom seasons.
I've been enjoying mushrooms (magical or otherwise) for most my life, many trips over the years and had my life changed by them for the better in ways I could never dream of; but had not been blessed to find any since 2015. 2018 I finally got my first car and drove for KM's upon KM's in vain, all around S.E. Melb, looking in all the "hotspots" but STILL, NOT ONE! Even been some silly fights that have ended friendships centering around mushrooms.
Come 2020, a mate and I visited our go to patch; but it was a bit too early. His "senses" tingled weeks later that they are out there. AND WHADDYA KNOW! Not only a good find, but I kept driving back for more magical Saturday afternoons frollicking amongst the Pines, Blackberries, hills and mud. Winter 2020 has been off the charts. This blessed pocket of wilderness, a corner of the Universe, has suffered logging, human activity and rubbish-dumping. But meteres away, into the wild, they grow. Hell I even spotted one growing on the hill meteres away! Nearby loggers clueless but those few locals who know its secrets in the bush. The fact no one had been often to harvest who knows as heaps of people have known about it over the years - a town secret
TL:DR? Keep searching. Don't make it the whole point of the trip, explore nature, explore and learn Mycology. Go off grid and escape it all and frollick. Frollick and meander and commune with nature, it will soon bless you when you are ready. After all, if it's meant to be, it will be. I've been trying for 5years, enjoying mushrooms I find in general - been an amateur Mycologist since I was 8ish. But never thought this would happen to me..
2020 has been mostly a bad year for the lot of us. I've been blessed to have days of Manifestation, Laws of Attraction at play and real magic and goals being achieved. It's like; I've never felt better but I could be a lot better! This 2020 I lost my 101y.o. Grandma just 4days into 2020. While the Victorian Bushfires ravaged nearby. To a random gorgeous person wanting to do Acid with me at a festival and then falling in mad love (again) with someone I can't have - fucking myself in love again. To dealing with my sexuality, lack of festivals thanks to COVID\bushfires, to having suicidal thoughts, to COVID, to mum getting Cancer, to loosing more friends including my oldest friend. TO suffering isolation and lonliness, long before our mate COVID showed up. So it's almost as if the Universe was like,"HERE! Have all of these because you're gonna need it bad!"
NEEDED TO VENT ALL THAT! I just think the Universe brings these gifts to you right when you're in need on every aspect of your Existence.
But amongst it, after 5 different visits and yielding each time, I now have these blessings. Shall have my first sample this Friday night me thinks
Thank you for existing Shroomery, thank you for reading and all the love and light!
P.S. The last pic, would I be right to assume the colouring difference is due to age of the Golden Tops? The lighter brown is from the 5 I'm holding with my hand. As you can see they are quite young and underdeveloped.
A mate whose mycology knowledge I trust but want to clarify; he reckons they're different kinds of "Golden Tops" - the "Pinhead", the "skirts up" because they do look quite differfent in most of the photos.

Hey man glad to see the success after so long, unless you have someone show you were they grow it can be quite the grind finding actives. Best part is now you can come back and harvest more from that spot each year. eventually it is no longer hunting mushrooms and just filling up book bags every time you go out till the season ends.

Thanks heaps man for your comment
Except maybe I didn't write it clearly; I've known this patch for some 10 years now. Those in the know told me and went picking with others who knew better. Now my trainer wheels have been for some years now and this season has really enhanced my knowledge and trained my eye to the point now I can spot them on hills away haha and increase that familiartiy of identifying which is so crucial.
Gonna be a shame when I move to Cali in the future, gonna have to start all over again and embrace that grind haha.

Nah bro cali is one of the best places to be for hunting. The whole west coast has some fire wood lovers. Once you train your eye you will see them all the time. While driving I always see patches out of the corner of my eye, found quite a few mulch beds like this.
