Heated grow area in the winter in North Washington.
    #26913066 - 09/02/20 01:42 AM (3 years, 4 months ago)

Is it feasable to beable to control the climate well enough for cubensis in a grow tent outside in the winter in Northern Washington? I have the option of using half my bedroom but sleeping in an 85 degree humid as fuck room does not sound to appealing. I guess the other option is 3 smaller tents in my beddroom with heating mats.  I want to do about 10 to 20 tubs. I am hoping a grow tent will be sufficient. I got spores, a pressure cooker, and 500 bucks to buy the rest of what I need. Grow tent Suggestions, tub tek suggestions. I'll take any advice, I am New but ambitious and determined. This Spring project is converting my semi trailer into a grow area but thier is no power on the property where it is located. So I am going to be experimenting and researching all winter.

Cubes grow just fine in totes with ambient temperature from 65-75 degrees. Look up some monotub teks. Tents are a pita to dial in and aren't necessary for cubes.

In the winter my heated grow area is a 65 degree room that's dry as fuck, from the heating.

As long as it's above freezing. Uncle rico does outdoor tubs.

You said it's gonna be winter but your room is also 85°F? Probably wouldn't hurt to use half your room once the temp drops if it is only 20 tubs, you can fit those one two shelves or against a wall no problem. Maybe be better outside, and by the time you're spawning a few weeks or a month will have passed and the temp will be lower. Putting 20 tubs in a room won't make it that hot.

Yeah I like fruiting cubes at 65-70. I actually started seeing problems in a few varieties when I kept it 85 constantly.

Thanks for the info, I guess I worded the part about my room temp poorly. I was saying if I were to grow in my room, I was thinking I would want to keep the temp around 80 for the benefit of the mushrooms. Also run a humidifier. My room temp is around 50 degrees in the winter as it is at the far end of the furnace duct system. So I was thinking either try to heat like a 10' by 6' by 10' weed tent outside vs lets say 3 smaller 50 dollar home depot speed rack style tents in my room with small heaters, maybe heat pads or im sure I can find something. It would be nice to have the large tent but we sometimes get temps well below freezing and have strong north easrern winds which also creats about a 0 percent humidity level. After a bit of thought I am pretty certain unless I found a way to completely insulate a weed tent, The only way to keep it at an ideal temp, lets say 70 degrees on average, I would have to be running a 80,000 btu, propane shop heater which would produce tons of co2, impossible to keep on a thermostat and probably melt the tent. I am going with 3 mini tents in the room. If anyone is doing a similar style I would love to see pics or get suggestions on tents that work well. My ceiling is 8'9. As many racks as possible would be great. I was thinking maybe just buyng some restaurant speed racks and get the plastic covers that drape over them but regular bus tubs would not fit. Hotel pans would though.

My room gets to about 50f in the winter so what I did was made shoeboxes and put them in a cardboard box and aimed a little 15 dollar space heater at the side of the box from a few feet away.

It takes a little experimenting to dial it in but I got it to maintain around 70 inside the box without the problems you get from heat mats causing uneven heating.

A tent should be no problem. Ime once you spawn a tub it’ll be ok even in the mid 40s but jars definitely need to be heated. I left town for a week around Christmas and shut everything off so it was 40-50 the whole time. My shoeboxes fruited fine but my spawn jars barely moved.

I've grown in 50°F before just fine. Just slower. I wouldn't mind if my room was 65 right now, better than 85.

I'd forget all that about the tents. Just stack them on one side of the room inside.

Tubs hold heat really well when they’re stacked together. I get a whiff of warm air out of them whenever I open the lid and it’s like 65 in my area. A little space heater in a 50f room would be fine I think.

If you’re planning on growing serious then definitely order some sleeves of Petri dishes and agar and build a SAB. Clean spawn is the most important part of making proper tubs.

At what point do I need to ventilate my fruiting tubs? Does good air flow increase yield significantly? One research paper I read from a dude experimenting with the effects of co2 found that exchanging the air once a day in the sealed tents and caves at a commercial growing operation had the same effect as mushrooms that had constant ventalation. The paper was written in 1930 though. Very well done but maybe dated? I've been thinking about doing my semi trailer mycology operation with just solar power and not have a high powered fan running all the time.I looked through the shroomery with the question of when do I need to start adding air flow and surprisingly found very little. I found a write up about a homeade "tropifier" fuck i forget what it was called, it sounded like a humidifier / fresh air intake fan thing. The semi trailer grow is still a few months out, I don't want to skimp and if having good ventalation is a priority then we will make it so. But if I can get amazing crops by simply being sterile, good humidity, and proper heat with just running a small fan for an hour a day through a hepa filter that would be ideal. So lots of air or is it not really nesscary? And once fruiting do i need to worry about contamination as much? I see folks growing in the open without lids on thier shrooms. Damn. I have so many questions. I have not been this motivated since I started a hot sauce company 12 years ago, my marijuana growing years may of been equally exciting. I was so fucking depressed this last year. It has been a very hard past couple years actually. Mycology has given me a new lease on life. Thank you to everyone answering my questions. I really do appreciate folks like you. If any info im citing is wrong please tell me. On a side note... I cooked for Bruce Willis's party of 7 tonight at the hotel I work at. I just got home and haven't got a chance to tell any of my friends as they are all at home sleeping. I realize it's off topic but I thought I'd say something to someone and I don't really do facebook anymore.

 once you spawn the tubs it's set and forget. I just wait two weeks for pins.

The most you'll do is check at like day 10 and if it's a little dry mist it.

But no air systems or venting, it's all passive. Yeah it's that simple.

Look up ohmatics monotub Tek or pastys ez dialed monotubs.
