15 minutes in the pressure cooker melted the caps on the slants I was trying to make. Can someone point me in the direction of some slants/caps that will not melt. These ones said they could withstand PC temps, but maybe just the tubes? It's insane. Now I have to go clean this.

You should go for slants (and caps) made of polypropylene.
Did your pc exceed 15 psi?

Ah fuck, I know that exact experience. Go into the work area and then get ready to open the sab up and set up a little 45° area for the slants to solidify on. And bam I opened the pc up and agar and slants were all kinda meshed together in the qt jar they were cooked in and that pretty much ruined my day lol. But live and learn I guess at least I didn't get agar all over the inside of my pc.

It may have gone a little over. I tried to keep the temp low enough that the weight was barely moving or hissing. I looked at the specs for LDPE low density polyethylene and it seems like they aren't supposed tolerate pc temps.

I got caught up but am going to try and backtrack through a couple posts and find some that were. recommended a little while ago by a TC. I need to buy some myself and looking through the Amazon listings tonight didn't yet yield any solid hits. I see some that say autoclavable @ 15psi but in the reviews melted for 2/10 people and several that had PP tubes but shit caps. I'll let you know if I find that recent post...

Thermo Fischer is a place I got my first slants. Other scientific equipment sellers have them, typically in assorted sizes. Ebay as well is a good place for stuff like that.

Thanks. I will try those. These are 'falcon' and I am sure they all use LDPE and not HDPE or PP, but maybe I can give it a go with them or even find some higher quality caps since all the tubes and agar actually survived.

I’m about to make some from cell treat centrifuge tubes later today so we’ll see if those work.
You can get 25 for free from the site.

Cap is hdpe, not sure what that is. Actually I just realized I don’t need to pc these I can just pour them like plates but I’ll throw one in just to see.
Just checked it out it says the caps can handle 220f so I wouldn’t go 15psi.

HDPE is high density polyethylene so should withstand higher temps than LDPE. I noticed the screw caps are all rated for slightly higher temps.

No not yet.
I’m pretty sure other people have though. The tubes should sterilize pretty easily compared to grains.
