Outdoors flowhood
    #26908349 - 08/30/20 04:44 PM (3 years, 5 months ago)

Only place I have to use my flowhood would be outdoors, are there any problems with this? My poor machines been out in a shed, luckily away from water, for about a month.

It would be in the shed but its not insulated, it has outside air coming in, not like a big gust of wind though. No I have those same ones on agar though, if I can get them going I’ll post a grow log

You might have to be the bold adventurer on this one and let us know how it goes!  I guess I don't see why it wouldn't be just as effective outdoors, although you'd probably be replacing filters more frequently due to more crap in the air.  I would think any sort of mold spores that are found immediately outside your home are likely to be found within it as well unless you've got an airtight home and HEPA filtration.

That's something I hadn't considered.  I suppose any amount of sufficiently strong breeze could fuck up your laminar flow and therefore the whole project.

sketchy

some 2x4s and polythene. you make a clean room inside your room. you know what I mean?

Im pirate style myself, but I would not set up a flowhood inside a shed.

Why not a SAB inside your house? I bet it would be cleaner

Build a little shed outdoors? If there are any competing currents in the air then the hood is pointless. I'd go back to the SAB at that point. You can pull off a plastic tent though I'd imagine?

Come on if I can use my flow hood in my garage with the door open there’s no reason he wouldn’t be able to use a flow hood just in the outdoors as long as you use sterile technique And have a real HEPA filters

In a garage you've at least got walls on some sides of you to block cross breezes.  Full disclosure, I don't have a flow hood, so I don't know how fast that air is moving, but don't you think a sufficiently strong cross wind could fuck all your work?

Yeah you’re right so don’t use it during Hurricane Katrina....Just enclose your flow hood

So, do you cover it with anything while it's not in use? Cats like to hunker down in my garage so I'd like to cover mine with something once i make it any tips?

Thanks everyone. I’m going to build a little room like you guys suggest, don’t feel like wasting money to grow mold and contams.

I have a plexiglass door that covers the front face and the pre-filters cover the top. You could always put a tent bag over it, or a trash bag if you want to save money.

I just cut a piece of plywood and screwed a cut off to it for a handle, I tacked a couple nails in the upper corners to hold it in place if its traveling. It covers the filter face and is sturdy enough if it gets hit its not going to damage the filter.
Also if you have sides to keep your work in direct flow of the air it should be ok, inside would be better but idk why you wouldn't be able to work in an outdoor environment. Just my thoughts.
