Oat Prep Questions

When I prep oats using the 12-24 soak no boil method How long should I let them dry for? I read a tek using WBS they let it dry for only 15 minutes.
I was using the boil method but trying to prep 36Qts on the stove in boiling water is a pain. I may try it again as I feel soaking might not be hdyrating the grains enough, causing slower colonization times.

Never done a soak before but my suggestion is you get them dry. Any moisture on the outside of the hulls makes a mess in the jars. People are going to jump on me but I usually leave my oats (that are boiled) sit for anywhere between 24-48hrs to completely dry, stirring and keeping the wet one in front of the fan. I know people are going to say thats bad advice but it works for me, if they sit less then I get wet jars.

Do you put a fan on them while drying?
I was having problems with bags becoming too moist, especially when boiling, I was having water buildup at the bottom. I was not letting them dry long enough, and probably boiling longer than needed.
I built a nice drying rack that is large so i can spread the grain out thin and dry faster. I put a box fan on it for 3 hours and it seems to be ok. I was just curious if any others use the soak no boil method? I was surprised by the fact that some of the soak no boil people only dry the grain for 15min.

Seems like a lot of grain when you arent sure how to prep it....
I would do smaller batches to get things dialed in.

I've been using the soak no boil method with success, but sometimes I think I may have let them dry too long because I was scared that they would be too wet.
I am considering trying the boil method again to compare some tubs side by side with the no boil tek.

Yea I usually boil till the center of the oat has a little white un saturated germ. Or else I get over cooked grain and it makes a mess, and yea I always have a fan blowing on them, either a fan or a little heater, to blow dry air on them.
