So i was cleaning out my fridge... . had like 20 or 30 plates that smelled clean...
Dropped them in a shoebox ( 5 diff varieties ) as an experiment,
Didnt want to waste them and i already took transfers.
Anyone ever done this or heard of someone doing it and got mushrooms?

The issue i see with this is the large volume of material (agar) that could possibly be prone to infection from other things (molds, bacteria) when mixed in with the bulk sub leading to mycelium having difficulties and ultimately contamination. However i’ve seen TC’s say that mycelium completely colonizes agar even if you can’t visibly see it with the naked eye, so maybe it could work especially with old plates.

yes this has been done by some people to see the results. You basically get very few and small fruits because there isn't enough nutes and it may take a long time.

Unless you added grain to the sub and sterilized the whole thing there won’t be enough nutrients for more than a few mushrooms.

Okay! thanks for your responses. I tossed a few agar in a potted plant outside and got very tiny mushrooms (barely worth mentioning) so its a nutrition issue. gotcha.
