using mushroom slurry straight to casings?
    #2691138 - 05/17/04 02:25 PM (16 years, 9 months ago)

im wondering something.... while reading up on alot of teks, i seen a few that stated u can mix up some mushrooms/water solutions in a blender to make a slurry which used in jars grows faster than straight spores... now, my question is.. wut if u made a casing, mixed up some slurry, dropped the bottom layer of yur casing in, and then evenly put the slurry in the middle like u would a normal case, wouldnt that be alot faster than jars? or do u risk alot of contams?? ... if u could do it this way, wouldnt it cut down time to atleast 1/2!!!?  or  feedback please :P

I have never heard of doing that, and it doesn't sound good. How would you know the slurry was sterile without the spores being killed? The other organic mushroom flesh besides the spores would break down and rot, making it open house to contams.

Sounds like you're a little confused about the karo tek. You can use a live mushroom piece dropped in a sterilized water/karo mixture. That will prompt mycelial growth which can be used to innoculate a substrate, it cuts down on germination times.

If you want a very fast colonized casing use pasteurized poo and straw mix. Take a fully colonized brf cake and chuck it into a clean blender. Add a few tablespoons of bottled water and a tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide. Hit the low speed button a few times for about a second each time. Now take the resulting slush and thoroughly mix it into a couple of quarts of the pasteurized poo, cover and inccubate for about 5 days and you should be ready to add the casing layer.

This kinda sounds like what you are shooting for to me. You dont want to use the fruits like you said because all you will get is a rotting mess and a nice contam farm.

Good Luck!
MYKEY
