ID request - possible libs?
    #26911224 - 09/01/20 05:58 AM (3 years, 5 months ago)

Hi guys.

I found a bunch of mushrooms and am wondering if there are one or two libs in there?

They were found in the uk Midlands on a hill in damp grass which is also in a horse field.

If you think these may be libs i will harvest them properly and upload some better photos

many thanks

Thanks mate!

Out of curiosity so I know for next time, which features are different to that of a libberty cap? To me the 3rd picture at least looks identical to the photos of libs I've seen. Although I full accept im not expect so I'm wanting to learn 😃

If you look at the underside of the mushrooms in your post, they have brown gills, which indicates a brown spore deposit.

Lib caps have a purple spore colour, so the underside should display purple gills, as opposed to brown gills...

Not necessarily true, Panaeolus subbalteatus has brown gills when young turning Dark Black with age

edit,  it would help if your pictures were in focus

Heres a photo of one of the mushrooms gills. There are a few different(but similar) types all in the same patch.

yes gills or pores could be white and have orange spores.. or even immature gills can be pink and have dark spores when mature. hense the point of taking a print and not just looking at gills.

kinda looks like a pan in couple of pics. is it fimicola that has the drappy longer cap that comes down? and infrequently have a subtle nipple?

Great thankyou!

Im still struggling to identify them properly. Perhaps its a case of once you've seen one in the flesh, it becomes a lot more obvious. To me the ones in my photos look exactly like some peoples libs.

Im glad there is so many experts on here haha! All your help is much appreciated.  Hopefully this year will be the year i finally find some!

I find once you come across a lib then you are more likely to find more as you know what to look out for.

I been trying for years to find libs until last year and it really stands out.
