Exactly. Like if they are violent criminals, for example.

Why would California go red? It's one of the top ten biggest economies in the world. Alabama has a level of poverty that is "shocking" to the UN.
Why would anyone want to turn their home into a shithole on par with the worst of the third world willingly?

Like California already doesn't have record poverty and third world living conditions.
https://www.record-bee.com/2019/09/17/california-no-1-in-u-s-in-poverty-and-no-1-in-declines-in-poverty/
Poverty is way above the average in the US. The wealth in California is concentrated and then if falls off a cliff.

Poverty is way above the average in the US. The wealth in California is concentrated and then if falls off a cliff.
That uses the "supplemental" poverty benchmark. Maybe you forgot where I explained that to you here:
Quote:
Falcon91Wolvrn03 said: ...the problem with the supplemental poverty measure is that it says ANYONE living in California making less than $30,000/year is considered to be living in poverty no matter where in California they live. But the cost of living in the Central Valley and the more Northern parts of California is MUCH lower than it is elsewhere, and people making $30,000/year there aren't even close to living in poverty, yet they get counted that way because of the way the supplemental poverty measure works. Don't be fooled.
and again here.

Dude, not owning the fact that you were insulting me looks really, really bad. You should just own it and stop hiding behind this bullshit that just because you said it in a clever passive way, it wasn't about me.
It's even more pathetic, actually, because you're a fucking mod.
But honestly, this lame-ass doubling down on your part is doing a great job illustrating my point about actual *moral* fence sitters and unaffiliateds coming to realize they want nothing to do with this kind of bullshit you're projecting.

Yeah, and it's a smaller economy than California.

A solid chunk of Alabama shits in the drainage ditches by their yards.
California poverty, people can't afford yards. That's bad, yes, but still miles above literally open air sewage, and people piping literal shit into ditches by their houses because they can;t even afford a septic tank. That's some Indian ghetto shit. Literally.

I really had no way to know if you were serious about that nonsense at the time. It is entirely possible that I was laughing with you at your satirical post. You chose to take it as an insult and that says more about you than anything I posted.

What's the appropriate benchmark in your opinion? I understand that cost of housing is one serious consideration, but so is insurance, energy prices, taxes and other factors.

My benchmark is "access to basic sewage", which is literally the most basic need for humans in high density civilization. There is a direct correlation between sewage technology and population density dating back to Roman Republic times.
People can deal with a lot of stuff. Air pollution, food logistics, that's something we can deal with next year. Shit is something that we deal with RIGHT NOW, or we all die of cholera.
