Fuck that's expensive.
I pay $7.4 for a 25kg bag of wbs, $11 for straight millet 25kg, $10,5 for 25kg of sorghum.

Those are crazy prices, then again you guys get flow hoods and pressure cookers for cheap which costs me my first born and a pound of flesh.

Juvec,

I may have missed this but will you please describe your lids, and your isolation technique for transfers to agar and jars?  Alcohol, gloves, SAB, garbage bag, whatever.

You are doing everything by the book, as you’ve said earlier.

This probably has nothing to do with it but did you say the jar lids have a nail hole with poly?  If so that’s a small opening, possibly insufficient for gas exchange. 1/4” / 6mm is more typical.

Boil your oats until there’s no white in the centre when you cut them open.

Let them dry overnight if you have to. They really do need to be pretty dry.

I tried rye first and was pretty successful but switched to oats because I could get them cheaper and my wife hated the smell of rye boiling and getting pressure cooked.

Might try wheat next, because yeah, oats are a real bitch to get properly dried.

Popcorn is the grain that actually sucks. But either way if you've been at growing for a year or so all grain should be a good choice that you can make work.

Grain like rye, oats, wheat are all way easier to get just right

Try drying your oats on an elevated screen of some sort with a fan blowing across it.  If air can't travel between the grains, the drying process will be MUCH slower.  If you live in a high humidity area, you will to have to help with the drying process as ambient airflow will usually not work effectively.

Corn is easier to get wrong moisture content and the grain size sucks
