Yeah you don't have to boil. But boiling them isn't going to cause that problem as long as you're putting them in the jars after the outsides have dried. Do you ever take the weight off the pressure cooker to take the top off quicker or do you let it depressurize naturally?

Use a towel and have a fan near it, and move it around here and there, and make sure it's freshly boiled so it's plenty hot to evaporate. Or you could use something like a window screen propped up on something.

but the most important things that I've to ask you is : do you use agar to inoculete your oats jars ? or did you inject them with spore ?

also use this treat for oat https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/22158748

I always use that and it works super well, your method it's to complicated, keep it eassy

I would love to see some pics of those jars just for science.

Despite what some people say, I firmly believe we cannot kill all bacterial spores on/in the grains during a regular 2hrs pc cycle. It's been my experience beyond almost any doubt.

We have access to the grain we can get locally and with a little luck it will be sufficiently clean to work with, so the spore count after the cycle can be sufficiently reduced to be something manageable... but sometimes it isn't. So maybe switch grains because it seems you have a bag of unusable oats.

The nature and morphology of the material in which the organisms are heated during a cycle and the type of heat (dry heat vs moist heat) are important factors to determine how effective the pc cycle is going to be.
Grains have a high content of organic substances that protect bacterial spores against the lethal action of moist heat. So proteins, sugars, starches, fats and oils all act in this way. The effect of fats and oils is greatest in moist heat as it prevents access of moisture to the endospores. So besides being protected they're only receiving the lesser effects of dry heat.
Maybe we can kill all vegetative bacteria during a cycle but endospores are a different story...

Bad lids
Bad filters
Didn't vent pressure cooker

There's operator error somewhere there.

All vegetative bacteria dies before the pressure cooker weight gets put on. Only rare species can handle above 160F in a vegetative state.

Can i skip the boiling step? Just do a 24 hour soak -> PC?

Yes, this is how I prep my oats...with great success.

I use oats with no problem. I boil them untill there's just a little white left in the middle when you cut one in half. I dont wait until a few burst. Seems to really cut down on dry time. If your pc'ing properly then it has to be your agar, steril technique or the jar lids that is causing failure.

Did you try some other grain? Do few rye grain jars and change all lids and filters on your jars and see how it goes. Watch RR rye prep video, i never had any kind of bacteria or mold after PC in unused jars doing this way (i do 2.5h on 13 PSI) and i use polyfill for filter.

I do enough oats for 9 jars at a time, I soak overnight, rinse well and starting with cold water I boil for 30 minutes tops, drain through colander, shake, stir, shake, dump in a large shallow tote and then I leave them overnight to dry. I stir them from time to time to help them dry out. Next day I load the jars and PC 2 hours (vent 10 min). Leave PC to cool down, warm to touch but not hot. Remove jars and shake, they never stick, they're like a jar of marbles.

I use SFD's with the heavy plastic Ball lids with a 1/4" hole or canning lids with 4 small nail holes.

Works every time...

Now if I could just get my agar work up to scratch...

Common USA WBS consists of mainly sorghum aka milo mixed with millet, wheat and sunflower seeds in that order and sometimes cracked corn or other nonsense.

If you can get sorghum it makes a fine spawn grain. Or wheat or millet or many grains. Oats are the devil.

Are you venting your PC? What kind of PC do you have? Gets up to 15 psi no prob?

polyfil is fine, may try tighter wad. Are you doing something wacky like lids upside down?

I like oats. But haven't been able to find a cheap source of them. I like to use bird seed because it's cheap as fuck and you can buy basically everywhere

Shaking oats is way easier than shaking bird seed

These prices are very high do you have animal feed supply stores that sell ~22kg grain bags?

You really gotta vent. If you don't vent the temp inside is like 214 degrees.
