is it possible that your body-mind effect from cannabis is different than other people's body-mind effect from cannabis.

I have enjoyed a range of effects from acid and shrooms that maps very closely to the range of effects from both salvia and cannabis; naturally allowing for differences in duration of effects and rapidity of onset of effects as well as presence or absence of sedative effects.

alcohol, however, just misses the mark in so many ways.

May not be as fully Psychedelic as actual Psychedelics, but for me personally, after 4 years of daily/near daily Harmala and DMT consumption Cannabis has never been the same sense, now it resembles Aya much more than the Cannabis it used to resemble. It's not enjoyable anymore for me, it's teaching.

I took about a 4-year break from cannabis and then tried it again last year for the first time. I had exactly the effects you've described here. Additionally, I experienced severe paranoia. The paranoia was more intense than anything I experienced when I was a teenager. When I was a teenager, I would be paranoid about the cops or about my mom finding my stash or something. The paranoia this time was of a whole new order. I thought there was an unmarked, white van outside my house filled with members of a Christian cult that were about to kidnap me, fly me away to another country, and murder me if I left my house. Not a pleasant experience at all. Having psychotic thoughts is not fun.

Just curious what people find enjoyable about using thc primary products for recreational use. I'm thinking that some people's brains are just wired differently than others. Because these effects usually come with the territory every time I experience it, where others it does not.

All of my flatmates are heavy cannabis users. They use multiple times per day: flower, dabs, edibles, the works. They rarely have negative experiences with it (usually only when they accidentally ingest too many edibles). One day, recently, I was having an extremely unpleasant edibles experience (shivers, stress, paranoia, anxiety) and they were helping me calm down a bit. One of them told me "tolerance is a wonderful thing". I could be wrong, but I think part of the reason they are all able to enjoy cannabis so much is because they are habitual users and their tolerance to the drug allows them to experience the pleasant effects without suffering from the negative ones.

However, my problem is that I don't want to build up a tolerance. I don't want cannabis to be a regular part of my routine. I prefer drugs that I can visit whenever the time feels right, without being on any kind of schedule (like LSD or mushrooms). If I need to become a regular user to build up a tolerance so that I don't get psychotic thoughts every time I use cannabis, then it's just not my kind of drug. No big deal, though. I can live without it. I definitely save more money without doing it all the time. I get a lot more out of my experiences with mushrooms or LSD anyway, and I don't have to do them nearly as often just to have a pleasant experience.

Ive been a daily smoker for as long as I can remember and go through about an oz a week. Last time I went more than 2-3 days without smoking was probably 10 years ago. Me and the wife pretty much smoke constantly all day. We use a gravity bong primarily to make it is efficient/last as long as possible. But this post has brought up a great point. What do i enjoy about it? I dont know. Not much to be honest. I simply cant bring myself to attempt to stop. Its been so long and I wouldnt know how to replace it. I could save a lot of money and it makes me constantly tired. Id say the reason I do it is is similar to psychs. It makes this life more liveable. Shit sucks everyday for the most part and it helps to take the edge off and make things not quite as bad. Or maybe i just a little numb to it. I think it's also mostly just a big time consumer for us as we dont really enjoy anything else. I feel like id literally be sitting around bored af doing nothing if not smoking.

I use it in a psychedelic way.

Its pretty good training for the fight or flight response.

Im pretty good at stopping panic attacks immediately after years of practice. After, you can feel very blissful.

I only do greens few times a month myself, it probably plays a big role in keeping the fun stuff from dissipating as tolerance doesn't seem to build up. I have noticed that when I did stuff only few days after last time the effects weren't nearly as interesting so I will keep usage fairly infrequent. I also use one of the high THC strains, 20% is very fun ~

Been vaping about .5g/day for years, mostly later after 5pm but there's still some use midday. Mostly for the relaxing effect.

When i rarely take a week off or so when i vape again it's much more euphoric and it wakes me up and gives me a bit of energy but after a couple days it's back to being sedative.

Never been able to tell the difference between sativa / indica from the effects either.

Well, semantics aside it's not traditionally considered a psychedelic although some people do refer to it that way.  The mode of action is completely different.  So if you grew excellent mushrooms and dosed high on that alone you would most likely enter a realm that weed doesn't penetrate.

If I overdo it and get stupid heavy stoned (it happens!) I see some mild hallucinatory effects and visual enhancements, and I get some psychedelic head space, but the downside to that is that I'm then stupid heavy stoned which kind of ruins it. But I have had convincing hallucinations in the distant past on strong hash.

The real defect of weed IMHO is that though yes it brings some psychedelia it also brings confusion and lack of retention of any of the beautiful insights.  I.e. the dots don't really connect. :cookiemonster:

This may be the crux of the problem for you. I have always been a light smoker and still enjoy light smoking to this day. 55yo, and started when I was 12-13yo, but on and off. Sometimes for years. I've tried the dab shit twice back in 2015-2016 and both times I was scared shitless and thought I was tripping on some LSD or something. I do not need that, nor do I ever want it again.

I can buy an 8th and it will last me a month or 2, and I don't get high every single day. If I do smoke multiple days in a row its with 1-3 hits, and usually around 2 bong hits. I like the distillate vape cart, that will last me a couple of months as well, maybe longer. Sometimes I won't smoke for the whole week, sometimes I'll smoke every other day.

If you abused them, or its time to go, psychedelics including weed may chase you off.

Its enough. Put down the pipe and move on.

Cannabis kicked you to the curb.

It's the only one that physically causes me anxiety, where as all other psychedelics relieve it  sure I get come up anxiousness sometimes but it's just nervousness, not physical anxiety and shaking, heart rate increase. I use to grow my own for years and work at farms, was a daily abuser and would have the same highs often, to me it just comes with the territory of thc I just don't know how or why I enjoyed managing that aspect of myself back then, I think I got my dose.

Yeah when I mainly stopped smoking about a year ago, it would just give me anxiety.  Yet I still smoked it strangely enough... I found that I needed something to counter the anxiety to truly enjoy it, and for me that was alcohol.  But one definitely shouldn't need liquor in order to enjoy cannabis.. that means something is off.

I honestly feel for me what made me enjoy it less and less was that my neurochemistry had shifted around 23 years old or so as I fell heavily into an opiate/benzo addiction.  And I think the long lasting changes those drugs made to my brain caused me to not be able to enjoy cannabis like I used too when I was younger and I didn't take any drugs other then smoke weed and the very occasional psychedelic trip.  Now that those changes have mostly healed, I think that I'd be able to enjoy it again when the time is right.

Same thing happened to me. Was a daily user for 20 years. Took a few months / year away and now it is just hell when I smoke. Never had paranoia or anxiety and all the negative body consciousness before. But now its just there every single time. I now smoke when social situations pretty much force it on me and that is it.

Then Ill pop a couple caps and people are like " wait, weed scares you away but you're gunna eat mushrooms right now?" lol

after 4:20pm most days, it is fine to use cannabis to add the following sensory changes to the day:
warm relaxed back and limbs - initially
strobing movement feeling and observation
sparkle, chiaroscuro, golden filigree overlays to visual field
physical sensuality
unusual sounds.
tastes and flavors...

so basically it's a kick back from quick thinking to slower thinking and more body awareness type of shift.

later on, I may get chills, shivers, some lung or throat sensation (from the condensed thc vapor-> sticky oil), cartoons on dark walls or closed eyes. likely some forgetfulness, as in wondering what you are doing in the room you just had to go into.

etc.

I used to get tense, and worry how to hold my face, in social situations. Less so now.

same for me from the first to the last sentence...

One aspect is getting older, as many report this change.

Another may be the complexity of cannabinoids.  A lot of stuff marketed is pure THC, 0% CBD, etc.  But the weed you'd smoke in the old days certainly had a combination of THC, CBD, and many other cannabinoids.

So I wonder how much of the anxiety and other negative effects are resulting from isolating THC.  Maybe these chemicals work best in various combinations.

There may be something to that, actually. I find that the most anxiety-inducing cannabis experiences for me are with edibles, which are often pure THC with no CBD.

That makes sense, we have to take into account THC has been genetically manipulated for so many decades to increase potency, having a plant produce 30% THC is something so much more powerful than you will find in the wild or even just 20 years ago. You lose primarily the balance and spectrum of other cannabinoids. But I also believe it's just the territory of THC in higher doses, or particularly with no tolerance. I believe anyone can experience the negative effects by over-dosing themselves with zero tolerance, or even with tolerance. I know that's how it works for me. I also chose to smoke a well balanced flower of 5% thc, 10% cbd, and 3% terpenes. And it didn't make much of difference in having an overwhelming reaction to that THC even though it is at a minimal level. I think everyone has their own sensitivity to it, and it's just the effect of the drug

Yeah I wondered that too.  But I'd had an intense and paranoia free experience back in the day with about 25 mg of pure delta-9 THC provided free of charge from the federal govt in an anti-nausea test for chemo patients - I saved out what was left over the course of treatment and kept it for several months, until opportunity beckoned - a morning drive up Mary's Peak in Corvallis OR.

Absolutely pure.  For weed I've been chasing that high with legal high-THC varietals. With some success!

So it's not JUST the drugs like any psychedelic it's the set and setting as well.  The more relaxed the user the less intense are those negative effects IME.  YMMV of course.

I think we all have had amazing experiences, we can't deny the fact that THC is known to be paranoia and anxiety inducing as well, somehow it heightens or severely increases the sensitivity of these responses(dose relative to tolerance) even if you are able to have a great stress free experience, the ease of crossing that threshold of anxiety and paranoia is a higher chance in my belief, I'm not sure why, if it is a natural physiological response, or if it is acutely our emotional reaction, probably both.

Maybe this same reaction happens naturally when your ego is threatened or you feel "loss of control" perhaps on intense psychedelic experiences this occurs as well, when people think they are dying this is a form of paranoia, cannabis paranoia seems completely different though
