Right? That's the question I've been asking myself for years whenever the old "spores taste bad" pops up. So the spores in the gills don't alter taste but somehow when they get ejected they taste bad?
Doesn't make much sense.
each mushroom releases 2.8 billion (ish) per day. That shit adds up. Every time a spore is released another one takes its place

Suppose I could just chuck the spoon in the oven for 30 mins...
What way do you guys break it up?
if you're struggling to break it up, its probably pretty bacterial.
@culliganman Ive never had problem with sfds You can also cut out just enough tyvek to cover your hole and double up micropore over it. Just make sure its completely covered with the micropore.
They could also be laying eggs in your agar

Yeah tyvek ontop of the lid under the ring. I also use two disks but I made my ge holes too big.
I have some that I’ve pcd like 6 times now. I used to change it out constantly but started leaving it until it was getting kinda warped.

I was thinking about grabbing a paint suit today, that's what people still use, right? I started with poly, then switched to micropore and haven't really enjoyed either. Can I just rsv a disk around the hole? Dual layers?

Wouldn’t I be able to see the eggs on agar tho. I spent my am watching my jars, I seen a maggot crawl from under the ring . Maybe it made its way through the lid. Maybe it never was inside the jar. But more than 1 jar had maggots on the inside of the ring . I lost 21 so far I still have 29 fully colonized jars that looked clean I spent hours looking at jars man. But something tells me all my jars are no good. There’s no difference (filter/ prep) between my good looking jars and maggots jars . I gave em a shake last night to see if anything showed itself but nada.
On the bright side tho my bags are doing good . Might have to do strictly bags

I use tyvek envelopes because i get em free at the post office.
Eggs in agar are really hard to catch. I remember someone caught some in a culture a few years ago, but i can remember who posted it where so i cant dig up the pic.
That seems to be the only difference, innoculant.

Finally got everything in the SGFC, so excited. I plan to mist in ~1hr when the verm is more settled.
Anyways, I just have 3 more questions if anyone knows these.
1. When I rinsed the cakes off, I used the full sink water pressure, I'm not aware whether this is bad or not. Will this bruise the cakes or mess with the growth in any way?
2. I tried to cover any natural light out of the room so I could time my 6500k light, and I did a decent job, but there is a small opening of light coming through. Overall though, the room is nearly pitch black. Here is a picture, will this small amount of light mess up my 12h on/off light? edit: And the camera makes this seem brighter than it is, the light is not as strong as shown in the picture.
3. Unfortunately, I did not end up finishing setting everything up until later than I expected today, so, I can only do 11 hours light on, then 10 hours off. But after this, I will do 12 hours on and 12 hours off to the dot, but will this one day where it's 11/10 interfere with anything? Doubt it but just trying to be safe.
Also, I plan to mist/fan 3x a day till the cakes are glistening. If anyone thinks this is bad or has another suggestion please feel free to share!
And as always, thank you guys very much.

I use the post office envelopes too, I just trace the lid on them and cut the circle out so I don’t have to worry about glueing it on there.

That's a shout but I did just harvest 5 tubs from the same batch of jars. It has been fully colonised on a shelf for over a month. The tubs did have a bit of a less than average yield, but I'd put that down to the heatwave we'd had when the tubs were colonising. I did eventually break it up so I guess I'll see how the jars colonise. At one point nearly every transfer I made had a halo, now the temps have dropped everything is good again. Which is a relief as I've 7 new varieties arriving soon.

Yeah man the light is whatever. Just leave the window open sun is the best light you can get.
90% of my grows are just ambient sunlight.

Work does not allow me to begin this until a little later, so I decided 12PM - 12AM for light on would be ideal, that's when I can be there for maintenance.
Plus, I do not trust the window lighting in this room, it is a diagonal angle, there is a screen, and may cause direct sunlight sometimes.
That's why I went w the 6500k.
edit: and is the fact that I may have rinsed the cakes with too much water pressure a big deal? No mycelium got detached or anything.

I have my 6500k led bulb on a 12/12 timer and switch it on when I need it.
Im usually not in there during the on cycle.
A little extra light won't hurt anything.
For a while until i got my tiner i just left my light on 24/7

Depends on where you live. If its dry and you have heavy temp swings then probably. Lots of people pull off great outdoor grows because they have a good environment for them. Im not one of em.
Maybe you can be
