Wax-Paper
    #26908790 - 08/30/20 09:17 PM (3 years, 5 months ago)

I have been seeing a lot of conflicting opinions on whether or not wax paper can create a small eco climate for a full pinset. My first mono tub I have done was used with crumpled up wax paper on top of the uncased substrate. It was fanned and misted twice a day. I got a beautiful pin set within the first week which was impressive for my first grow. Maybe it was luck/genetics, maybe It was the wax paper that caused it. It’s hard to say. I’d like to hear other opinions on this method. Been seeing people saying that it’s bad for fae, and contams due to stale air.

Its just wasteful imo. Most of my shoeboxes get beautiful pinsets with nothing more than a top layer at spawning

just keep good surface conditions and dont mist on a schedule. only mist as needed and fanning is pointless

Definitely unnecessary for a good pin set, but I haven't done any testing with wax paper, I can't imagine it causing a problem. Having proper surface conditions are what make a great pin set IMO, so I could see how wax paper would hinder evaporation off the surface.

Have any of you guys saying no done any testing yourselves with wax paper or something similar??

If you’re seeing a lot of opinions on wax paper it’s because the site likes to suggest 20 year old threads for some reason.

I’ve never seen or heard of it being used in the year or so I’ve been here.

I find it works to even out the pinset but i havent put it into regular practice. I know most people dont suggest a casing layer these days, but i find it does help. Is it necessary - no.

A true casing works much better

I tried wax paper recently just to entertain the old idea.... see if I could get a better pinset.
It really did nothing compared to my unwaxd (au-natural) tubs.  All about evaporation at the surface lending to a microclimate of high humidity just above the surface.

Not needed.
