When is a primordia not a primordia anymore?
    #26903658 - 08/28/20 07:53 AM (3 years, 5 months ago)

I was sitting in on NAMA's first talk in their new Zoom lecture series with Eugenia Bone last night and the usual fungal life cycle diagram popped up. As always, it showed the primorida stage followed by the formal "mushroom" stage and that started me thinking: at what point is a primordia no longer a primordia? I have been working with fungi for a while now and am even in grad school but I realized that I have never read anything about what formally separates the two stages or even had a reason to look into it. Just seeing if anyone can provide some clarity on that.

I'd call it just a pin, unless primotdia is a pin then I would call it a bigger pin.

I would hazard a guess that it’s the moment the veil separates from the stem and starts rising

My guess is that maybe it is related to gill or tube formation but I don't know. It is one of those things that I never really thought about until now.

Hey 👋, I'm looking for some sound advice on techniques involving harvesting, rehydration, and growing bigger shrooms. Is this the right forum? If not could someone please point me towards the correct thread. I believe this is the right place

So it's my first bulk, when I started to harvest I tried twisting and pulling from the base, also tried a razor blade, buy chunks of my substrate are breaking of even when I'm intentionally trying to leave it alone, so I stopped picking and came to the board to ask for some advice pictures are in the previous post,
I also would like to ask how do I maximize size and quantity? I'm using Coco, verm, gyp mix 650g,2quart verm, 4 quart water, palm full of gyp, water pH 6.
Fruit chamber indoor greenhouse, inkbird humidity and Temp auto sensors keeping my golden Teach's at a constant 74° and 96% humidity with a 6,400 k light on10-12 a day.

I have 30 brf cakes ready to go, as that's what I learned on first,i shred and do a 30-40% mycelium to 60-70 % bulk Sub
I have to bulks growing mycelium currently

I'm thinking of switching to a different substrate maybe manure and hay it's readily available where I live any and all advice would be greatly appreciated

One other question if it's not to much to ask. How many of these tiny pins do I pull? Is there a rule of thumb? Or do I pull every single pin that didn't grow big? What classifies something as an abort? If I leave these small ones will they potentially grow in the next flush?
