So I decided to inoculate agar dishes a few days ago via spores. I had contamination around a white speck where I inoculated, center of dish. I wasnt sure if it was myc or not, so I quickly transferred it to a clean agar dish. The first picture was 24 hours after the transfer. The 2nd and 3rd pictures are from today. Does this look like mycelium or is that some form of contam (cobweb is my first thought)? I'm still getting used to agar work, and identifying clean myc on a micro scale like this is a different level of experience.

You're super early into your transfer so its hard to say, but I think they're looking fine

as stated, too early to know but things are looking good so far. Also, pour plates a little cooler and allow to solidify in stacks to cut down condensation. It is your enemy.

Is this doomed with that condensation on top? I will make sure to do that next time. But one question i have is... How many 1 lb brf jars can I inoc with this one single clean dish?

Thanks thats great to hear. Im so new I cant identify what very early stages of agar growth looks like. Spores directly to agar isnt the preferred way correct? I dont have anything to clone atm or else i would.

Spores to agar. transfer to new dishes until clean. noc up with clean myc.
You can noc up as many jars as you want. The more you use per jar the faster they'll colonize, which is good. Also, i've never put agar to brf so i can't really speak to that. We generally use it for grain. Liquids are better for brf because it allows the myc to run down into the brf and speeds up colonization. I suppose you could set a little piece on top and let it ride but i'd suggest getting grain spawn going and then spawning to coir.

How many agar transfers do you typically need to do to get desired clean sample? I need to get a PC sooner than later for my own grain spawn.

the typical answer is three to four but that's just something we say to keep noobs from doing dumb things. The real answer is there is no answer. You have to learn to visually identify clean cube myc. Sometimes the original spore germ plates are perfect and sometimes you're dealing with contams that you may not be rid of through hundreds of transfers. You really just have to be able to tell by observing.
