Is this Chaga?
    #26907722 - 08/30/20 12:04 PM (3 years, 5 months ago)

Hello everyone,

Stumbled into these today, up in a birch tree about 3m high. Unfortunately couldn't reach them, but wondering if the pics are enough to get an ID? I'm hoping it's Chaga, but not sure.
Any opinions?

That's chaga (Inonotus obliquus). Do some research on proper harvesting and consider using the birch polypore (Fomitopsis betulina) instead of chaga, as it is annular and more abundant.

Already worked with the birch polypore, but does it have the same medicinal value as Chaga?

About harvesting, the most important thing is to not damage the bark of the tree, if I understood correctly?

I am not fluent in medicinals, but I know that I've found plenty of materials on both species online. If you are planning on using either in any large or potent amount or for an extended period of time, I suggest you talk to an expert on the subject and possibly your doctor as well.
