The literary excellence of Brandon Sanderson * 2
    #26907571 - 08/30/20 11:15 AM (3 years, 5 months ago)

Literature very well may be my favorite thing humanity has brought into this universe. Because if this, I have been familiar with the works of Brandon Sanderson for white a while now but I only recently just started reading his works and wow... I really don’t know what took me so long to pick his works up....

I just started to read through the Stormlight Archives and I couldn’t be more impressed. It has a true force of suction behind it that keeps me drawn into it from the characters on a real base level to the more out there aspects of world building and philosophy on a less tangible level. I’m loving it.

Another things I’m thoroughly impressed with Sanderson for is the massive mountains of literature he has and continues to produce. It’s insane how much literature he has out there. From series of young adult literature to multiple sci-fi and fantasy series, to finishing the Wheel of Time series for Robert Jordan, to the Cosmere Universe for which he is best know, I have never seen another author take on such a massive undertaking and consistently produce amazing work after amazing work.

To illustrate this better, take a look at the image above showing the works he has done within the Cosmere Universe, spanning 4 different book series, across multiple planets and points in time among them, from classic fantasy settings to Victorian settings to what will eventually be a galaxy spanning all Cosmere encompassing setting. It’s just so cool, I can’t really put into works how deep I could geek out about this.

Anyways have you guys read him? What do you think?
If you haven’t heard of him check him out, If you enjoy well thought out fantasy, you will not be disappointed.

Stormlight books are like 1200 pages or 55 hours by audio.
I think mistborn is shorter but I’m still on Oathbringer, gonna read Warbreaker after then start Mistborn before Rythem of War is out in November.

I am a huge fantasy buff but Sanderson, I couldn't make through book one of Mistborn.  May have to revisit because everyone raves about him, and the job he did finishing Wheel of Time, so may be time to go back and check.

Just for reference some of my favorites: Erickson's Tales of the Malazan Empire, Mathew Woodring Stover His Father's Fist i think is the name of the series, immaterial though as the first book book Heroes Die is the epitomy sci-fi/fantasy, Tad Williams A Song  of Swords (you may notice a trend I like solid world building and character's with relatable motives) and Robin Hobb (all of her books) as she is the best character-driveen fantasy author out there (she doesn't ignore plot, it just follows naturally from the characters choices)  This by no means a comprehensive list.

Also already amazoned book 1 of mistborn to give it another go.

I’d start out with Way of Kings personally.

I seem to have a penchant for long book series - Wheel of Time (15), Riftwar Cycle (30 - only on book 3) and now Sanderson's books :omgz: gotta spend more time reading to catch up with my book buying lol

For real, I read extremely fast, and find myself in book droughts every couple months and it sucks so much.

I think I read one or two of the Mistborn saga but I remember not having the motivation to continue reading the next book

For me a succesful phantasy novel is one where I can imagine myself in the fictional world and having fun. I missed that in Mistborn
