After months of trying I've finally got this beautiful psilocybe pinning. Spawned on 7/3 and cased around 7/15. Looks like theres lots of nice little clusters 🤞 wish me luck on getting to spores

9/1 slow growth but progress

9/2

9/4

9/7

9/18

9/21 looks like they wanna open their caps 🤞

9/25 looks like I'm just waiting on spores now 🤞

9/27 Spores!

9/28

9/30 lots of spores!

Congrats man, keep us updated. I got a zap swab once, put it to agar and got nothing but mold. Super interested in the species, don't know much about em.

What spawn and sub did you use??
You gotta let us know if you think they’ve got a unique trip to them when they’re done.

Those are the 2 biggest clusters but there's a lot more just poking thru now too!

From what I've heard they're up there with azurescens, but I honestly don't know for sure. The zapotec shamans have been using them in their ceremonies for over a thousand of years though.

Yeah I've heard the same, getting to spores is the hard part. I have 5 qt jars more spawn nearly colonized I'm going to do some trials with different substrates.

lol man these are slow.
They look a lot like tamps. Once I started doing different species I realized cubes are sort of weird in that they seem to be the only type that likes drier conditions.

Thanks man! They're definitely slow as helll the box has been fruiting for 3 weeks and still not a mature fruit in sight. But it looks like I'm getting close. I've got maybe .5g of dry aborts so far as well. I'm hoping I can try a test dose of about 20g fresh plus whatever dry aborts i have.

20 grams fresh + aborts sounds like a fucking heavy dose to me but fill your boots. Maybe I’m a lightweight. But the zaps I grew were deadly, a dry gram was lots for most people.

My regular dose now is 2-3g dry pans and I've eaten 4g before and had nothing but a wonderful time. I think it should be just right 🤞

May be similar to what I've heard about semperviva, which don't start dropping until they are really, really mature. And even then it is taking some folks around 48 hours to get a decent print...dropping water on the caps throughout.

Very impressive! Well done
I have been working on these of and on for 3 years and the best I have been able to manage is a 2" underdeveloped fruit.
My main problem(i think) is the fact that the humidity where I live is usually around 30% which basically means that fanning zaps aborts them. I am stuck between not providing enough FAE and providing too much dry FAE. Also, this doesn't take into account that a single ephemeral mote of mist landing on a zap will cause an abort, so all the extra spraying to keep the RH high is weaponized. I've tried most permutations of fruiting chamber/fruiting styles with similar results.
So, I have 2 questions for you:
1: What is the ambient humidity where you live? 2: What is your culture/strategy with fanning and misting?

I live in a coastal Tropical climate so my humidity is always very high outside. Pretty much always 85%+. Its a bit lower in my house though, maybe 50s/60s. The shoebox itself is actually kept in a shitty fruiting chamber I made, I've been meaning to remake it but it seems to work for these 🤷♂️ it's a 105qt sterilite with a 120mm fan on one side and a 4in polyfil hole and fogger input on the other. And 2in of wet perlite at the bottom. It doesn't really hold its humidity so the fogger just soaks everything. When I first noticed it the little shoeboxe had a bunch of standing water in it. I've taken it out and dumped the water buildup several times but it actually seems to love it. The pins literally come straight up through the wettest spots, even straight out of standing water. But there is a big clear rotting spot on the bottom so it most likely won't flush again 😭
Great news though guys! These fuckers are kicking out a decent spore load! I was running late and didn't snap pics, but lots of the caps are dark and covered in spores now. I took the biggest cluster and put the caps on foil last night and I can already see the prints under them without even taking the dome off! I don't think its gonna be too much of an issue to collect a decent amount of spores. I'll update with pics after work.

Nice work!! They can be a real nail biter for sure. You always feel like you're on a tightrope waiting for them to mature, and hoping they don't abort just before dropping spores.

So I ended up taking 2.6g dry in capsules along with 5g fresh caps. The come up was very slow and relaxed, it took about 2 hrs until I felt like I was all the way there then it became very visual. I sat on my patio watching this mandala tapestry I have hanging blow in the wind for at least an hour. The peak seemed to last a very long time too. I dosed at about 12pm and finally had dinner for the come down at 8/9pm. Usually I'm ready to come down by 6/7. Overall it was incredibly beautiful, the slow come up was very euphoric and I had much less anxiety than I normally do from the super fast head change of pans. I've got another 5.6g dry so I plan on trying them out again sometime soon.
Also got lots more spores!

Was it similar to pans or was it a totally different experience?

Damn, that sounds so good. Now that it's cooling down I am going to give these another go. Thanks for leading the charge, man.
(Oh, for the pans, an eye mask really helps me get by that first crazy bit.)

Hey man nice work. Amazing. What substrate did you use for these? I read through but maybe I missed it.

Thanks guys!
The substrate was coir/jungle mix/verm/straw/black kow/superfine alder chips with the bulk of it being coir. Probably like 50/10/10/10/10/10.
Also if anyone would like a swab shoot me a dm 👍

Thanks for the swab!! I've only done cubes so far, and I have that down pretty ok. I've never used a fogger, or anything really besides passive mono's/shoeboxes. Time to do some reading!

Wow this was an awesome post to check out! Does anyone have any good links or recommend sources to read more on its historical and cultural uses?

Thanks again guys! I'm super grateful to have been able to cultivate this beautiful psilocybe and experience its gift to us. I still have 5.6g dry I plan to experiment further with soon!
@Radigast theres actually very little info available about them. Heres the wiki for the species and a link to some info about the zapotec Indians and their use of it. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psilocybe_zapotecorum https://psillow.com/species/psilocybe-zapotecorum/
