ID Request: Marasmius oreades? SW England on grass
    #26907156 - 08/30/20 06:48 AM (3 years, 4 months ago)

I've found what I believe is a cluster of M. oreades on a grassy patch next to a path. It has a strong hay-like smell. The stems are tough but pliable. They weren't growing in a fairy ring, but I've read this happens when a path is made across the ring and the mushrooms instead grow in a cluster.

Here are some pics.

Thanks in advance!

Yep, those are marasmius oreades. Their stem is specifically hard/elastic and they grew in patches/circles right?
On the bottom left you have leccinum, which looks like scabrum. The correct species dependend on the trees you found it around. Leccinums are also edible after preparation

Thank you! Yes, their stems are hard but pliable. They were in a patch, not a fairy ring. But I don't think a fairy ring would have been possible because it was only a small bit of grass next to the path.

I found the bottom left one with some friends who are more experienced than me and they said it was a birch bolete, which I've now found out is a common name for Leccinum scabrum!

There are also a couple of upside-down Boletus edulis on the bottom-right.

What do you mean by 'preparation'? I was just going to fry them all with a bit of garlic.
