The fact that he's on dexamethasone means they are feeling desperate. There's a fine line with dex since it suppresses the immune response and can do more harm than good if improperly administered. Data from a clinical trial of dex vs. standard care in hospitalized patients showed 23% mortality with dex vs. 26% without dex.

^this. Dex is used with caution and only when thought to be required. This has also been shown with Dex and other systemic infections as well. Dose of dex seems to define response but is difficult to dial in because of a tipping point.

People seem to be exaggerating slightly how cautious docs are using steroids. A lot of patients get them. Yeah, it is the sicker ones, but you dont have to be like, on the verge of death to get steroids. They were being used to help people with pneumonia breathe long before covid existed. Steroids make people who are sick feel better. I wouldnt be surprised if trump just told them he wanted to give an address and asked if there was anything they could give him that might help liven up a bit and they gave him a dose. Idk just speculating. But i have seen a lot of people receive dexamethasone

It appears to be possible to be very exposed to the virus and never get it. This lady at my parents' church has been shedding virus for literally 4 months, according to tests, but her husband has been living there with her maskless the whole time and has never caught it from her.b

You don't have to be really sick to get dex, but dex does have the potential to make infections, in particular systemic infections worse. It is a delicate balance between attenuating cytokinemia and crashing the innate immune response. This has been studied extensively in large clinical trials and meta analyses. Any doctor worth his/her salt would never give a patient with a serious infection dex just to prop them up and make them feel better. That said, there are lots of doctors still giving corticosteroids routinely to patients that are apt to not benefit-- much the same way some docs will hand out antibiotics to patients that don't have a bacterial infection just to get them out of their office.

He was riding around in a hermetically sealed vehicle potentially infecting two secret service agents through his cloth mask. Then he went straight back to walter reed to continue receiving remdesivir, dexamethasone, and possibly more oxygen.
The ironic thing is those trumpers will vote for him regardless, so the drive by does nothing to secure their vote. It only helps alienate any remaining people who were still on the fence.

Just got tested for COVID at a drive-thru COVID test station.
Stop 1: ID check.
Stop 2: long q-tip in the back of the throat and the back of the nostril.
Getting tested is a breeze, now the outcome...
I sweat so much at the slightest strain, needing very much breath and breaks like an old man. Occasional headaches, constant throat ache, constricted lungs, diarroea and a runny nose...
