The Hurricane Laura Blues

Like most people that live in the rural parts of Louisiana I have a generator. But it it's a humid 90° during the day. Everyone who walks outside sweats almost immediately and a single window unit hardly cools 3800 sqft. 75° 90+% humidity at night. My poor shrooms are suffering. The cake I nursed from very old spores is likely doomed. Four trees uprooted around my house. One, my middle son and I watched fall. Because, like all men, we know that the best time to go outside during a hurricane and watch the destruction is when the eye is passing over. God alone knows how those trees fell so perfectly as to not damage the house or any vehicles. Hundreds of shingles stripped off the house. Thank God the internet is shitty broadband and all those old phone lines are buried. Main power lines down everywhere. Uprooted trees across power lines. Long lines for gas since everyone needs it for their generators. Pickup trucks with the entire bed loaded with red 5 gallon gas containers are common. So many people without power. They just emailed that our area should expect power to be restored in the next 7-14 days. yay... But...Hurricanes always bring the shrooms. The local fields will be blooming .

Way to find the silver lining, brother!
Good to hear that nobody was hurt and that your damaging wasn't worse. Sending you positive mental energy.

I wondered which Shroomerites got hurricained down that way. Sorry to hear about the electric/fuel apocolyptica happening. Very glad to hear you didn't get hammered by a tree. Those old growth hardwoods are like tanks and that gets scary. Where I live in AK we regularly get (a comparatively paltry AF) 70-80mph windstorms (especially in the winter) and I've had to really clear the property... Don't miss tornadoes and hurricanes down south though. Indeed, makes for AMAZING flushes out in the fields though. Hope you get that roof squared away brother. I'm guessing hOMe DePot is out of... a few things at the moment.

I've endured a few hurricanes and it's fun until the power goes out, and the water, and the gas. After covid panic buying I realized how much people horde when others need it most.

Thank you guys. It is like a big camping trip. As long as the generator runs and the girls have wifi it will all be ok .

If you need any spores get at me or someone here who has something cool. Im sure we could help with that at least. Hows the state as a whole doing? I haven't really been looking at the news, was the surge as bad as the prediction?

I just read an article about shrimpers in Louisiana getting walloped. They go 30 miles upriver and park and something like 18 of 30 sank. Said it was the strongest storm in 150 years or something crazy like that. One guy said he was hanging onto a tank on deck and saw a guy on another boat get whipped 20 feet in the air after his cabin got tore off.
This one fool couldn’t even swim. How are you a boat captain who fishes for a living and can’t swim?? He had to abandon ship too. Dude said he knew he was gonna die when he had to jump into six foot swells after tying a rope to himself and throwing it to another boat.

Lieutenant Dan had no legs and he swam just fine. If he knew he was going to die how did he live to tell the story?
