These are 50/50 Coir/Manure with Purple Mystic, Golden Teacher and Brazil. They colonized fairly quickly but are not producing pins. I just read about overlay and wanted to know if that's what this is. Sorry it's a .psd file, it surprised me that I couldn't attach .jpgs Thank you...

I'm 110% not downloading that file my dude, you need to upload that stuff to your gallery and post those pics from there. Also from what i understand from the top dogs on here is you 99.99% don't have real overlay. Try the pics again and we can try to help

I started the bins on 8/13 and flipped them on 8/23. I have been misting them every few hours. These photos were just before a final misting for the night. I'm attaching 2 more images. They have the same sub and same conditions as the others but are in a different bin type (modified). All are in the same room. One is pinning and the surface looks similar to the smaller, unmodified tubs while the other looks stalled.

Will do! I just watered the first 5 bins I posted photos of, here are how they look now. You can compare to the first images (same order). Better, or still needing more misting? Thank you all for you help!

You flipped them after ten days? Or the lids?

The lids... we call moving from colonization to fruiting flipping. We are using Bod's Unmodified Monotub TEK. These are using Rye spawn in coir/manure 50/50. We will be switching to Bod's Easy AF Oat Prep TEK and Easy AF Bucket TEK in the future.

Fk I’m so intimidated by the mono tub. I’m doing my first soon. I only done cakes and I’m not a pro at that. How do you keep it moist?

By prepping your substrate correctly with the right moisture content.
‘Field capacity’ is the search term you should use 👍
You shouldn’t need to mist but for slight adjustments.

Don’t be intimidated man fruiting tubs is way easier than fruiting cakes.

Not very well apparently...
Seriously getting your substrate to full field capacity for colonization is the first step and then, after colonization, misting enough to keep light water beads on the surface (but not puddles) until pinning starts. Then just maintain...

This substrate was at field capacity (a few drips when squeezed) at the time of pasteurization. Once cooled I put it in the tub and mixed in a 1:1 ratio of grain spawn and put the lid on. 10 days later I had a nice surface of mycelium and flipped the lid to start fruiting conditions. I tried to maintain a nice bit of moisture on the surface (no fanning), but I'm sure once I get further into the learning curve I'll do better. No amount of words or pictures are a substitute for experience.

Something is wrong if it dried out that bad. And I'd use mycology terms if you want help saying flipped is going to confuse people.

Since appropriate moisture content is the issue at hand, if the sub is at field capacity before pasteurization, then that's enough to get through the first flush before a dunk? Aside from misting maintenance as necessary...
And field capacity is known by using the squeeze test. Should it be a few drips or a slight stream of water when squeezing? I have read both.
Lastly, if I confirm field capacity and still have dried out sub after colonization then one could only assume too much FAE during colonization?

lol field cap drove me nuts at first.
Basically as long as something comes out when you squeeze it’ll work, but imo it works best if just under a small stream runs out for a half second.
