Why do people enjoy cannabis? * 1
    #26905888 - 08/29/20 11:41 AM (3 years, 5 months ago)

I use to be a heavy daily user, concentrates and all, I believe it served a purpose in my life at that time, recently I tried some thc/cbd flower again after a year break, and struggled to find why I use to enjoy the effects, it mostly consisted of hypertension/vasoconstriction, reduced body temperature, slight tremors and primarily anxiety, the experience was the definition of stress and felt like my body was under the effects of full blown sprint just sitting down  Just curious what people find enjoyable about using thc primary products for recreational use. I'm thinking that some people's brains are just wired differently than others. Because these effects usually come with the territory every time I experience it, where others it does not.

You overdid it.

Be glad you just tried weed after a year off and not heroin, cause you're probably be dead if that was the case

Honestly people need far less than they thing they do. If you're a daily concentrate user, you're already too far and need a massive T-break.

I also find a weird thing about weed that I almost only enjoy it if I am doing it regularly. If I take too long of a break, the longer I want to not use it. It's strange. I feel a certain level of tolerance is useful to get the most out of it.

Thanks for the feedback, yeah I agree. At least in my experience daily use is the only true way of enjoying the full spectrum of effects with a tolerance to its potency, for me using it with no tolerance is not very enjoyable. The weed I smoked was only 5% THC and I only took 2 puffs off a joint, so can't say I overdid it, I've been in much worse territory in the past lol taking very large dabs. To me it's just the effect of THC, with lower tolerance the potency is obviously increased. But I could still have the same experience any day of the week when I was using concentrates on the regular, just depending how much I would use.

I'm definitely not going to try and use it regularly just to get a little better effects, my current life without it is much better, I guess it's odd I've reached this point. Feels good though !

after 4:20pm most days, it is fine to use cannabis to add the following sensory changes to the day:
warm relaxed back and limbs - initially
strobing movement feeling and observation
sparkle, chiaroscuro, golden filigree overlays to visual field
physical sensuality
unusual sounds.
tastes and flavors...

so basically it's a kick back from quick thinking to slower thinking and more body awareness type of shift.

later on, I may get chills, shivers, some lung or throat sensation (from the condensed thc vapor-> sticky oil), cartoons on dark walls or closed eyes. likely some forgetfulness, as in wondering what you are doing in the room you just had to go into.

etc.

I used to get tense, and worry how to hold my face, in social situations. Less so now.

Heavy daily user as well and these are all thoughts I've had. Too much of a break and the next smoke is very much like pre-DMT panic for 2 hours because it's too strong.

I'm beginning to really like balanced low THC strains with high CBG & CBD because you don't get the super high THC panic as bad.

Tolerance helps a lot with this. Pretty heavy weed smoker for about 13 years. Last year I took a 6 day break for the first time since I started, and when I came back I took like 4 rips and it was like the first time all over again. I had these racing thoughts and I was so happy and I couldn’t stop talking and laughing and it felt like I couldn’t get a breath but it was all in a good way.

I have anxiety when I don’t smoke, and my metabolism is really fast and I don’t sleep a lot and it seems this aids me with these things without taking prescription drugs.

I absolutely agree with the tolerance almost being neccesary to fully enjoy cannabis.  I took a very long break the longest in my life actually of 10 something months, and then took maybe two to three hits off a spliff.  The set and setting called for it, I was making amends with a long lost friend.  It was very healing as we used to smoke spliffs all day every day when we were friends.

The next time I smoked a hit off a spliff with that same friend at an event, and it was very very nice.  Like I said, I took probably two hits, tops.  The second time wasn't as good as the first though; but it was an ideal set and setting (large hippy party with bonfire and food served) with lots of good friends and folks.

Regardless, that was a month ago, and I haven't smoked since then and haven't really had the desire too.  Mostly because I cant smoke right now because I'm being drug tests heheeee.

But yeah, when I'd take breaks before, i'd find I would need a tolerance of a week or so to fully start to enjoy weed again.  I dunno, my relationship with it has just changed.  I loved it when I was a teenager and a young adult, but when I got to be an adult around 25 or so, it just changed completely.  I think though now that I am much more into music again and playing instruments and producing music it would be very helpful again.  But that time isn't now.

Ingesting any substance alters the natural chemical balance in our bodies. It takes varying amounts of time depending on the person for our brain/mind/consciousness? to adjust and function more fluidly under new environments. Think of how much your thinking processes changed when you stopped ingesting. It's the opposite process when you start ingesting.

From a medical standpoint, I think it's important to maintain the same doses over a period of time to adjust properly to really gain a "controlled" benefit. It takes a lot of experimentation to understand your appropriate balance. Our bodies change as we age and maybe you no longer need marijuana or at least at your previous dosages to gain the benefits.

I think it's also important to understand what is not for you. Some folks I know can't function without 2-3 hits in the morning. It's their coffee. I love coffee and can't function without it. When I was younger I never needed coffee. Caffeine is psychoactive. Makes a lot of sense why I enjoy it

For sure, your comments make sense, I just don't see the point of forcing myself to use more to gain benefit from it, that sounds odd, but also is probably one of the very few drugs which you gain more benefit from having a tolerance to. In my case, THC doesn't benefit me at all besides enjoying the recreational effect with a tolerance. I wouldn't want to rely on it as an escape or to sleep like I have in the past, or even develop a habit, or even use it frequently enough to be able to enjoy its recreational effect. I'd want it to be an occasional thing, but also I don't really get much enjoyment from one or 2 puffs with zero tolerance, besides a barely noticable effect or crossing the threshold of harsh negatives. It's an interesting circumstance, I find myself enjoying Caffeinated teas and Kratom once in awhile more so than anything recently.

Interesting.  I like it for music, for working on repetitive things (with music), for its ability to settle my stomach sometimes, for the body sensation, the mild hallucinations, and a few other things.  Taken in moderation (a portion of some days) it seems to be pretty damn reliable in effect, with no down side effects other than the ability to make more mistakes than usual. :laugh2:

But when I started smoking again last summer after many years away, even though it had in the meantime become legal here, I found at first I still got the old paranoia I'd had in the past when I'd grown it surreptitiously.  But that reaction rapidly went away - which to me indicates the source of the paranoia was actually the illegality.

Legal weed can be truly incredible, but varieties have different spectrums of effect ranging from blah to OMG.  Been vastly preferring the OMG types. :awesomenod:

THC can make you strange, you could feel like something is amiss, and know you are strange and likely you wont even find what's amiss by squirming alarmedly, but  you are stuck still feeling something off, maybe terribly so.

Cascade that a few minutes and you wont be having fun at all.

But get into a banana, or swim, or step into a garden, and that will cascade in a 'nother direction.

something about a child's eyes.

keep it fresh.

I didn't get much paranoia though there was a dash of it, was rather the way it effected my body that made it very uncomfortable, jaw was jittery, body tenses, hands and feet turn stone cold, and the overall feeling of in a high heart rate workout while just sitting down. I couldn't find a way to relax into it until the initial potency of the high wore off and I balanced off. I don't think it was a high enough of a dose either to get any psychedelic like effects, that was the only sensation. maybe I have an extremely acute sensitivity as well with no tolerance and should do a little less next time and see if I get anything out of it, but I don't think I'd get any real effects without doing a lot more but I wouldn't want to mingle with that with no tolerance. The only panic/anxiety attacks I've had in my life have been on weed never sober and I can easily induce one by smoking

for a long time

with dad

like it wasnt negative time in total

and I was pretty smart so

then my life became worth living or I started having postitive time because I smoked in the evening

or later I thought back on it

like that it gets greater all the time

my time in high school was not negative

during days positive evenenings

When I was much younger I enjoyed cannabis. I'd smoke it day in and day out, make music and generally just loved it. Somewhere about 21 it started to get boring and I slowed down on it and by about 23 it was just uncomfortable. I wondered why I even smoked it anymore, it no longer brought me pleasure like it used to, so I stopped. I've smoked a few times since then, but it's not really great for me.

I remember how good it was when I first found it. I get why people start, though I suspect it turns into a trap for many that they don't even realise they are in.

Yeah, once I started again it was a bit hard to get to where I could use it just in moderation, with the occasional "wipe my brain" indulgence.  (But now I've got a plant growing in the back yard which is cool and ought to keep the cost down.)

Strain has made a big difference in how it goes though, so experiment to find a sweet variety that does what you like.  This is really not different than mushrooms though IME.

It's the only one that physically causes me anxiety, where as all other psychedelics relieve it  sure I get come up anxiousness sometimes but it's just nervousness, not physical anxiety and shaking, heart rate increase. I use to grow my own for years and work at farms, was a daily abuser and would have the same highs often, to me it just comes with the territory of thc I just don't know how or why I enjoyed managing that aspect of myself back then, I think I got my dose.
