Is anyone currently using this coir?
    #26906051 - 08/29/20 01:50 PM (3 years, 4 months ago)

There's some older threads where it's mentioned and some say its good, others say its shit. The amazon reviews are similar. I bought it thinking coir is coir and then found the mixed reviews. If it's trash I'll donate it to my wife's garden. If anyone is currently using it with no problems, I'll continue on.

Probably should just try some of it yourself, I am sure at least some portion of the people that complain about particular brands of coir or say they're no good actually have shitty contaminated grows going on.

Maybe there is actually some real shit coir out there but literally every brand I've ever tried works

you should experiment and see for yourself. Personally I use horse shit and vermiculite lol. Learning how to work with shit is more important because you can use it for panaeolus cyanescens in the future... Believe me you'll be wanting panaeolus cyanescens down the road...

Fuck it. I'll do a couple tubs with this stuff and a couple more with some eco earth or somethin else that is commonly used and compare them side by side.

I would love to start working on pans but... baby steps. Once I get 3 or 4 full canopies under my belt, I'll take on some more difficult projects.

Yeah I would do a few grows first. It's always a good idea to make a couple different types of substrates. That way if you mess one up you'll still get some mushrooms. You can buy horse shit on ebay with free shipping. If you buy it off of a mushroom website you'll end up paying a ton of money for shipping...

Solid advice. I'll keep that in mind in the near future. Right now, I'm just gonna go with oats and straight coir. When I know I can keep my sub from turning green by learning surface conditions, I'll broaden my horizons a bit.

I would add vermiculite.. a 50/50 works great and I would add 5% gypsum. Vermiculite is really cheap and at your local store so there's no reason not to us it....

I just finished a brick of that, not my favorite but it was fine. I’ve used four brands so far and they’ve all been acceptable. Eco earth was by far the sketchiest, all chunky and full of sticks and the occasional  random bits of plastic and string.

What is your favorite coir and why? I was gonna try coco tek but didn't feel like driving 30 minutes to go pick it up.

I’ve been into hydrocrunch lately off amazon.

They were sold out a couple months ago and it’s a few bucks more now for some reason but I was gettin the 5k bricks for 11 bucks. Idk why I like it exactly but it’s really clean and consistent.

I recently started using this and I fucking must say it’s damn nice. It’s easily the cleanest coir I’ve ever prepped.

That looks like a fairly typical Coir.  Go for it if the price is right.

I get CANNA from my local grow shop and super happy with it. They hook me up on the price cause I hook them up on goodies so sweetens the deal even more.
