Sorry my picture of a mushroom and a shoe angered  you so much

(edit: the intention wasn't to be aesthetic, simply to show off an more twisty cint that you usually see, if you can make out the twisty stem from the shoe and the grass, the picture has served its purpose. That being said, the photo is absolutely atrocious and I understand that it wouldn't be suitable as a aesthetically pleasing picture or for an ID request)

A good tip for taking close ups with a smartphone, hold the camera up to your hand and lock the focus on your finger prints, then you should be able to take good macros without worrying about the auto focus.

What was the substrate? They don't look like cinctulus to me, I don't see any poo. Look at the spores under a microscope using the 100x objective and look for spores that are in an oblique view to check for an angular germ pore.  If you don't see the angular germ pore. They're not cinctulus and I guarantee you no one can tell you they are cinctulus any other way unless it's  DNA. There are 3 macroscopic look alikes that share the same habitat.

Edit: I hate autocorrect

I work on a cattle ranch so I see a lotta poo. Sort of out of focus so I can’t say 100%, but the 2 brown splotches right below the stem in the pic sure looks like cow manure to me, it’s just liquid and a weird shape because of the amount of moisture in the grass the cattle are grazing, they’ve got the runs.

Not saying they’re cinctulus, but it looks like there is in fact manure

I think the ones in my signature are Panaeolus Olivaceus, they turned out to be so weak they ain't worth it, but i thought the pic looked cool so I kept it.

Lawn panaelous are much more diverse than we currently know, they need to be studied more in great detail. It's very difficult considering their massive range and lack of distinctive features. Still much to be discovered, keep looking. Active pans do not just grow on hpoo, although that seems to be their favorite, I find them on deer droppings quite often in the summer months. Dog parks are another good place to look if you are hoping to find some however, I'd refrain from eating anything growing from dog shit.

I didn't say active pans only grow on hpoo, I said I have only seen cinctulus on hpoo, along with 3 look alikes. There are active grass Panaeolus, but I haven't seen any yet from grass that have an angular germ pore in oblique view. The need for further study of grass dwelling active Panaeolus is the reason I decided to focus my efforts on this Genus.

If,  any of you would like to contribute to my studies,  I'm looking for collections from both dung and grass substrates from locations worldwide. Requirements are:
1. In situ, clear, up close photos showing the Cap surface, gills and the stipe including the stipe base. Sent to me in a private message.
2. Your user name
3. Location (nearest city or town)
4. Observation date
5. substrate

All specimens collected should be handled as little as necessary to preserve as much detail as possible. All specimens received will be examined microscopically and measurements of each taxonomic structure performed.  If,  you create an identification request, then send me the link in a pm with the in situ photos, I will come back to the thread after I receive them and post my measurements as well as any pictures I take through the microscope eye piece.

Remember, when taking in situ photos,  cast your shadow over the mushroom(s), direct light can obscure important taxonomic characteristics necessary for proper identification. If you look at the picture your planning to submit and you can't see everything clearly,  I won't be able to see it either!!!. All specimens received will be added to my herbarium for future reference and sequencing. After my journey through this life is complete,  my herbarium will be donated to the University of Florida .
